Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1993 Eurovan. This van has a 5 speed manual transmission with a 2.5L gasoline engine. It has been sitting for the past couple years and needs some work. But it is a very solid platform if you are looking for a VW van project. I purchased this van in 2008 from a local european car dealer. I paid $5750 for it because it was so nice. Before I picked it up, the dealer installed a new windshield. When I purchased it, the van came with all the maintainace records since new (including the original window sticker... see pics). I have not added up the receipts, but the stack is about an inch thick. The previous owners took fantastic care of this van. I am the second owner of this van. Since I have owned it, I have added new front axels, Continental tires (about 10K on them), a rear muffler, a battery, rear bumper ends, and a throw out bearing. I also have a pocket manual for this van. Recently, I purchased new brake disks (there were from the bus depot... new... but discounted because of the rust), new brake pads, new cans (2) of white VW paint and clear coat and new mud flaps (which are very cool). These parts are not installed, but come with the van. The vehicle starts and runs just fine. Just a couple weeks ago, I drove it from Lancaster pa (I had it stored at my brothers house) to Allentown pa (where it is located now). The trip was about 2hds and the van ran strong, but it will need some work to obtain an inspection and put it back on the road for good. Here is a list of what I think it needs: 1) The van does have some rust. In some areas, I scraped off the paint where it was starting to bubble. Then I added some rust preventer to slow down the corrosion. My plan was just to touch it up with the VW paint and clear mentioned above but I never followed through with this plan. The worst area is under the left rear bumper cover. This is common for these buses. It is an easy fix and it is hidden by the bumper cover but it is nearly rusted through in this area. Because of this problem, the rear bumper cover has a hard time staying on and would need to be fixed before the van is driven for any length of time. (This is the reason the bumper covers are new... the old one on the left side (they were white) flew off on the highway when I was driving it. I had to buy two new black ones so they matched.) This van has been repainted in some areas over the years. The paint on the once side looks a lot newer to me that the other side. Also, I think the rear hatch was painted before I owned it. The body is mostly solid. With a new coat of paint, this bus would look fantastic. 2) The Speedo, fuel and temp gauge are not working at the moment. I read this is a common problem with this speedometer (VDO brand). The fix involves fixing a cold solder joint on the PCB (power supply related). There is info on the internet on how to fix this. 3) There are two exhaust holes in the exhaust. The rear muffler is new, but the exhaust pipe needs repaired in two areas. It runs just fine with these holes, but its a bit loud and not very VWish sounding. 4) The blower motor needs replaced. I already took the old one out but I have not sourced a replacement. Its a tough job to replace this motor and I just have not had the time to finish it. The motor goes in just under the dash, but it is a tight fit. 5) I am not sure if the front brakes need to be replaced or not. I have the rotors and pads to do the job, but I have not popped the wheel off to check the condition of the current pads and rotors. I bought the pads and rotors because when I drove it (from lancaster to Allentown) after it was stored for two years, the brakes sounded kinda rough... They stop just fine, but I thought better safe than sorry... The rotors was on sale because they have surface rust on them. They are new... just rusty. The interior of the van is nice for its age. The drivers seat is the worst of all the seats. I have had the carpet out once before to have it cleaned. The floor of the van looks great underneath. If there are any questions, please call me at 484-239-1958. I would be happy to answer any questions or show the van to you if you are in the area. There is no inspection on this vehicle and I have it off insurance. Payment is due when the vehicle is picked up and there is a $250 non-refundable deposit (via pay pal) due within 24hrs of the winning bid. There is no reserve on this auction. Good luck.
