Vehicle Detail

Hello and welcome to another Houseofhotrod auction! Today I am listing a 1969 383 powered 4-speed shifted Road Runner for a friend of mine. This is a nice clean and solid driver with its original 383 engine and complete original powertrain - just a fun to drive, clean and solid old car - not a restored car, a survivor. You know the type - and you can tell when you drive them. Solid, tight, and just a joy to drive. The owner of the car does not want to sell it, but at this time he must. I have spent some 'seat time' in this car and have really enjoyed it! This is a wonderful super solid runner and driver that will absolutely be a blast to own, this is a very early '69 car, and has some of the early equipment. I will do my best to describe it so that you feel you know it, and to point out any and all problems (none that I can find on this car!). It's hard to show the total story of this car in the words I use and only the 4 basic eBay pictures, plus another 100 (O.K. 173) or so I squeaked in, but again - I will do my best, I tried to use pictures that covered the overall feel and look of the car. I use lower resolution so that anyone in the world can download them with relative ease. The pictures are taken at McMinnville Oregon's Evergreen Aviation Museum - home of the one and only Spruce Goose. They are very nice folks that let me snap my pictures there at the museum. The plane behind the car is a 1944 Douglas C47A Skytrain. Not just any C47 Skytrain - it's one that flew troops that parachuted into Normandy on D-day, as well as flying various missions before and after that day in history. If you're ever in town, stop by and see this awesome pair of museums - there is an Air and Space Museum there, as well as an Imax theater and a newly completed and newly opened water park . Please be aware that this car is advertised and for sale locally, nationally and globally, and we do reserve the right to end this auction at any time if the vehicle sells before auction ends. If you are SERIOUS about this car - please call my cell # 503.580.6225 If I don't answer the first time - try again later - if I am at work I may not be able to answer your call. Please be considerate of the time. We have little ones that need to get their sleep. Someone's gonna get a pretty cool one of a kind Plymouth Road Runner in their garage! This is a unique opportunity to own a car to enjoy, to show, to drive - and most of all have fun with. The value is here, the timing is right. You will never lose. Buy it today and be the envy of those who hesitated and lost. . This is an awesome, and very original '69 Plymouth Road Runner. These cars first came out as '68 models and soon became the terror of the dragstrip, and were muscle cars that were to be reckoned with. These cars were bad boys, and meant business. This particular car was special ordered in a special color by a man for his 50th birthday at Roy Burnett Motors (Chrysler Plymouth) on 210 NW Broadway in Portland Oregon. At the time Roy Burnett was the 8th largest C/P dealer in the country. It's possible - at least we have been told that this could be a 'White Hat' car - not that this makes a huge amount of difference to everyone - but wanted you to know. This car has never been 'kid' owned, and that in itself makes it a rarity. Combine the color, the documentation, the original build sheet, intact and in place original fender tag, original owners manual, the history and unrestored - no amateur attempts, no rattle can rebuilds, no used car lot details nothing - and the question has to be asked - how many like this are out there? Who knows how rare and significant a muscle car is that has never been a hot rod, or a kids car, or wrecked, or......... - how many do YOU know of? We are about 35 miles from where this dealership was located, and the car has never lived outside of this area - in fact this is the furthest it's been from home, at least owned wise since new. The license plates and frames are the originals. Let the words of the current (3rd) owner speak: "I first saw the car in 1979 in my neighborhood while riding the school bus. The Dukes of Hazzard was big at this time and I was nearly sure that this car was a General Lee car, boy was I wrong, but then again I was only 6 years old, and in the first grade. Hah! I approached the man when I was 13, and he simply told me to go away, that the car wasn't for sale EVER, so there must have been people wanting to buy it from him at that time and bothering him about it. He was a small guy that wore plaid pants and was very outspoken. He told me he had purchased it for his 50th birthday. Special ordered it, and when it didn't come in they tried to give him a Hemi car on the showroom floor, but he said h........eck no. the car has early '69 equipment such as no headrests, black door handles and the early '69 shifter. I kept track of the car on and off through the years, and later was able to purchase it from a gentleman who had obtained it from the widow of the man who bought it new. He owned it for two years, also owned two Hemi cars, and used this for his driver. He said he had shown the build sheet to 'the big boys' at Barrett Jackson one year, and that it was one of 11 built in this particular color combination (please note: we have not attempted to document this). I waited 30 years to own the car, but now I don't drive it as much as I should, have some other passions I am pursuing, so I need to sell it. I even have date coded plug wires for it!" Well that's his words, now lets go around the car - it's really pretty much as the triangle made it - it rides on all its original suspension, on redline Firestone Wide Ovals - in an F70x14 size. The wheels are the originals - not just originals, THE originals. You've probably already decoded the fender tag, or if not the place to do it is www.stockmopar.com/mopar-fender-tag-decoder.php This is a pretty cool site - and all you do is put in the vin and all the codes from the tag and it tells you all about the car. Apparently the 99 paint code is 'unknown at this time', but it sure looks like Omaha Orange to me. This is a 330HP car built in Los Angeles on 11/20/1968. It's funny that the sale date is 04/26/1969 - so am not sure why the delay - maybe they had to find and dealer trade the car for him (and just didn't tell him?) or did this when unable to fulfil the order or ?, I am just not sure - but one thing that is for sure is that this is one unique Road Runner. Moving farther along the equipment - it's got High Trim in White and Black, and a vinyl bench. Music Master AM radio, white full vinyl top and is a special order car which backs up the mans claim. This car once again has never been 'kidded' - so no headers, no stereos, no wheel flares, etc. etc. That in itself is unusual for a car of this era. The car drives wonderfully, and is just a joy to bomb around in. You'll notice that the owner put another couple hundred miles just since I took the pictures - I think he will be very sad to part with it. the interior is very clean and once again, just like it was manufactured. Underhood is all original - the clutch, never been replaced, and the car has not ever been raced - which is not to say it never 'stoplight raced' but chances are, not that either. When 'expert types' and Mopar freaks look this car over the term they use is 'untouched'. The radio and all the guages work, the glass is good and the car locks and unlocks with the correct keys. This car is completely unrestored - not just a little unrestored, but completely unrestored. Every part and piece is just as Plymouth put it together ( I know - tires, carpets, battery, plugs etc...)- no there's no original air in the tires, but you know what I am saying. It's a survivor - this wasn't planned, it just happened and some of the most insanely cool old cars are ones that got to today just the same way. There's a spot like the right door front portion and right front fender that have had a little bit of paint work at some time (like a LONG time ago), the carpet was replaced at some time, and the plug wires (but we have those) and that's it. Other than that the paint is original - and overall - the car is awesome. Is it perfect? No - are you going to put it in the Detroit Autorama and get best of show? No. BUT - you will get awards at most local cruises, and have a dependable car that drives out well, and does just what it should. The trunk is probably the worst spot, and most of that from the original vinyl trunk mat - which is pretty much typical - and at one time obviously the car saw daily driver duty, so the rear window, as most all of them do, leaked. It's an old car, and they were not perfect when new. If you want perfect, strap ballpark 100,000 to the front of the price, and then you have a car that isn't all original - and isn't going to be nearly as fun to own - and probably won't be near the 'real deal' car that this 'Bird is. In Oregon we have some of the nicest sheet metal you will find anywhere. No high heat (other than in the high desert) no salt, just a little rain - ok maybe more than a little - but I challenge you to find nicer sheet metal and interior preservation than we have here in the Northwest U.S. But here's the amazing thing - It has not been detailed, buffed or fluffed - and what you see is how the car has been kept. Nothing phoney, nothing rattle canned, just honest - and the real thing. I like that. The chrome is nice, and is straight. The car is not ever currently rain driven, no has it been for quite some time. It's kept inside and never kept outside. The car was made to drive, and enjoy, not for the floor of a car show, or museum - or it's the perfect candidate for a complete frame off, or even just a sympathetic restoration. In fact - you could build a pro touring car with it, but the current owner would really like someone who will appreciate it for what it is, and know's these cars for what they truly are will preserve this amazingly intact piece of muscle car history. It's super nice, super rare, it's priced right, and is a wonderful driver - that will turn many heads, win trophies , and sweep it's class in local, regional, indoor or outdoor car shows - and possibly concours as well with a little detailing, and give the new owner years of pride of ownership, thousands of thumbs up, and an enjoyment that nothing but a classic car will bring you. Own it, enjoy it - show it!! You'll never lose a penny if you treat it right - better than stocks and bonds (especially in today's market!), and more fun than money in the bank. Yes - opportunity IS knocking. Thank you for looking and bidding!! Now for the nitty gritty: DO NOT BID IF YOU DO NOT INTEND TO PAY! Your bid is a contract and will be treated as such.
