Vehicle Detail

OK, all snarkiness aside. I am re-posting the HAYASHI RAT because it fell just short of what I thought was a very reasonable reserve and I am lowering that reserve too! I am including more pictures to help with any missed details so please scan all the way through the photos as they pretty much tell the whole story. This bike as it sits now is a ready to ride rat cafe. That means it has a few warts, scars, picked scabs and yes it farts too. It will dribble oil occasionally. And like most any willing partner in crime it is going to require some pretty dedicated attention to keep the relationship going. The Dunstall clipons will pump up your forearms. The John Tickle rearsets will make you understand their limited production. The Giuliari hard tail seat is actually comfortable. The combination of all three is an amazingly modern comfortable and controllable riding position. The Hayashi Racing wheel set will keep you and your admirers drooling. (In my opinion these are by far the best looking wheels made back in the 70's for the CB750.) The engine was modified back in the late 70s or early 80s. I cannot verify what was done to it but it is breathing through 140 mains which with the kickass pipe seems to be just about perfect. It pulls hard and makes great noises. It has an early attempt at a dual disc set up. I added a modern master because I like to actually stop. The bike stops pretty well considering the condition of the front tire. The chrome bits are too numerous to mention. They are cool but none of them are perfect. Though I like the slightly hazy almost nickel look of some of it. It has a dream taillight and the and a functioning headlight light. There are no turn signals but all the wiring is still there and it would be easy to add some if you are too afraid to let go of the bars and use hand signals. The horn works. The seat is hinged but there is no latch. The seat has the studs for it so the later plunger style could be added and the seat would be lockable. Is this bike ready for a 2000 mile ride home? Not unless you are handy, manly and you add a new front tire before you leave. Yes the bike runs and works pretty damn well but as it sits it is in the beginning stages of what it should be. With a bit of love/tuning and a paint job this could go from rat cafe to a show winner pretty quickly. I just prefer this look at the moment. It is not perfect but it is a perfect starting point to something grander or it already is a perfect rat. (If there is such a thing as a perfect rat...) The pictures show pretty much every wart. There is not much you cannot see. Check out my last auction on the 400F there are a few pictures of past bikes that I have listed. I know where these bikes can go project wise and the limits here are only your imagination and your wallet. But don't let the lack of cash stop you! The reserve has been lowered from my last auction. It is very reasonable considering what you are getting. IF you add up the cost of the wheels, rear-sets, seat, clip-ons, vintage tach and CB1100F shocks you are at the new reserve. Will it drip on your garage floor? Yes. Will it make you smile? DEFINATELY! 1975 CB750K Rat Cafe Ultra Rare Hayashi Wheel Set. Dunstall clip-ons. John Tickle Rear sets (identical to Dunstall) Vintage K&L tach. No speedo, unkown miles. I am not positive but I have been told the pipe is a vintage RC item. The seat is a reproduction Giuliari hard tail and it is hinged. Front fender is vintage custom, maybe another Dunstall item. Master cyl. is a new Nissin for the dual disc front. Fork air pre-load caps. Rear tire is new, front is not. Uni-pod filters. Carbs have been cleaned and floats set. Tank is clean and rust free. Braided brake lines. Chrome swing arm. CB1100F shocks. New Battery. Other chrome bits, not necessarily nice but chromed none the less... Tripples, fork lowers, engine cases, valve cover, gauge mount, float bowls, headlight, Rearsets and other miscl. I did not build this bike. I added the seat the master and a couple of tweeks here and there. I have done a basic maintenance to get it running, rolling and stopping. It was modified back in the day by a local (now incarcerated) drug dealer. and certain aspects tell the tale that most likely his mechanic was high during the process as well...OK maybe not only the mechanic, the painter definitely had a brain cell count issue too. Maybe I should part it out but it is so cool as a bar hoper rat cafe hot rod that it seems a shame to take it apart. It is not perfect. It has a headlight, tail and brake light. The horn and starter button work. It has no turn signals (but they could be added back on) And the kick starter has been removed and blocked off. The engine was supposedly modified back in the day. I have NO idea who did it and what was done. but it pulls well and seems to be jetted nicely with the pipe and air cleaners. It is running 140 mains and getting pretty decent mileage. It starts and runs well. Bit of vapor from the valve cover breather but it is supposed to be routed to an airbox, currently it and the oil tank breather are routed to a chrome catch can just behind the carbs. The body is black, the frame is black the engine is black and hazy chrome. the #%@$!#! carbs are black...Who the hell paints carbs wrinkle finish black? Not just the carb bodies, THE WHOLE carb assembly! The pin striping looks like a overly cafinated monkey did it. It has what could be called character, patina, ageless beauty... Kind of a Peter Fonda Evil Knievel sunburned beat up and crazy sort of swager. It is tough as hell and people LOVE it in person but I don't want anyone to get the idea that the paint is as good as it looks in the photos! Or that it runs like a new Toyota. It sounds great, it pulls hard. it spits and pops and farts and it drips oil when ever it wants, but if it can make this 47 year old feel 22 imagine how it might make you feel!?!? If nothing else the Dunstall clip-ons will give your forearms a nice work out. There is not another CB750K like this one on the road, most are much prettier. I should probably sell all the cool parts and throw the rest away but it is such a cool package. It makes little kids stop and stare with their mouths open and they wave really slowly while they dream about being a cafe racer when they grow up, "Mommy what's a cafe racer?" "look away boy, look away..." It makes women walk a little faster and duck into the nearest store front. And it makes guys either give you the thumbs up as they ride past or a middle finger wave as they stand beside their too hard to start $50,000 "bar hopper" frustrated that little kids don't and won't wave to them. My reserve is a total of what the COOL parts are worth to me. Think of the rest of the bike as FREE except that you have to pay for it. It has a clear title and current plates. (If you are from out of state the MN plate stays here). Please ask questions early if you have any I am not always around at an auctions end. If you want something even more rare and a little bit nicer please feel free to check out the auction I have for my little CB400F. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270814824350 I can help load the bike if you would like to pick it up. I can deliver it (for a small fee) to any local metro shipper. If you live reasonably close I can even offer door to door delivery. I have a large driveway and can accommodate your shippers truck if you would like to have it picked up. I will deliver it to a shipper to be palletized but I will not build a shipping crate for it. Most shippers supply a base now anyway. I expect a paypal deposit within 48 hours and full payment in cashiers check or cash within 7 days. The bike will not move until payment has fully cleared my bank. I will sell internationally. Yes, it IS cool as hell! On Sep-13-11 at 06:13:03 PDT, seller added the following information: Because EVERY auction with a reserve seems to get the question "what is your reserve"... All I can say is that my reserve is significantly less than the buy it now option. When I offer buy it now on something as large as a motorcycle it is for those one in a million ebay buyers who understand what they are looking at and they just have to have it. You click the buy it now the bike is yours. Other people including me love to wait until the last minute and dive in with the bids. For all of you auction hunters and CB750K Cafe Racers or in this case rat cafe lovers...Remember. this combination of parts is VERY difficult to come by. You can ride his bike in its current Rat Cafe configuration or take it all apart and refinish finish it super minty. Either way this bike draws attention. And unlike most butchered up bobber/cafe bikes with spray painted rusty wheels and crappy bobbed seats and fenders this bike has substance. It is more than the sum of its parts. Where else are you going to get HAYASHI wheels Dunstall Bars John Tickle rear-sets Giuliari hard tail seat. CB1100F shocks (heck there are 1100F guys that want those for their restoration and these are in excellent shape!) yadda yadda, I think you get the idea but just in case you don't. Where do you normally get all this? NO WHERE! This stuff doesn't just grow on trees. Jeeez! Hurry up and bid before I come to my senses and put it back in the garage! Good luck.
