Vehicle Detail

Chamonix 2002. Car has been my daily driver and performed very well in that capacity. This car would make an excellent candidate for continued restoration effort or just immediately enjoyed as a well preserved 2002. Car has been California-based most of its life and it shows. It appears to have its original white/Chamonix paint, original carpet, headliner and seats. As the pictures convey, paint is very presentable with only a few minor chips, dings and scratches here and there. The body is very straight with no prior evidence of a collision. Paint holds a nice shine. Rust: Surface in a few spots at best The floor pans are solid as I have been under the car on several occasions and inspected. Shock towers are also solid with no rust, as is the trunk/spare tire well (had minor surface rust but I removed it and primed the bare metal). Gas tank side of trunk looks unaffected. Inner fenders and spring perches appear rust-free. The only areas that have light, light surface rust are the lower front valence, below the bumper. The roof channel section by the drip rail molding. The edge of the trunk lid, facing the rear glass A small corner of the inside edge of the hood (about the size of a quarter) The lower, outer corner of each door (also pictured and about the size of a quarter) With the exception of the lower door spots and the small section in the corner of the hood, the other areas mentioned are just very, very light surface, cosmetic in nature due to how thin the paint is. No metal compromise or bubbling paint or pin holes. It is so light that several passes with fine grade sandpaper would remove it. I have not addressed this yet because it is barely noticeable and I was just going to wait until I had the car painted. The front windshield does have three small chips in it but would pass inspection and do not obscure line of sight. I have priced several nice used-conditioned windshields at $50-75. The rear glass is fine. On a 1-10 scale, the car's exterior appearance presents as a solid 7.5 The interior is the strong suit of the car, very clean with perfect front and rear seats, the original carpet still looks very nice. The headliner also is very nice, with no sags or rips, just needs some minor cleaning to make perfect. The Dome light works as it should as well as the door-ajar buzzer. All the electrical items work with exception of the horn due to recently installing a late model BMW sport steering wheel and have not figured out how to wire it up (wire and terminals are present). Heater blower motor works at all speeds. Upon purchasing the car, I drove it over 500 miles home and it did not miss a beat and has been going strong ever since. On the free-way it feels right at home briskly outpacing traffic at 75-80 mph and delivering amazingly confident cornering. The motor is stock with the exception of a Weber 32/36 carb (with CA Smog-compliant Tag attached) and MSD ignition. The cooling system has the Tropical Fan option and has no issues with overheating, even when stuck in gridlock traffic. Transmission is 4 speed and shifts fine with good clutch performance. Recently bled the clutch and brake system when installing steel braided lines as well as adjusting the rear brakes and e-brake cable. All work fine. Recent/other upgrades to the car are as follows: Flexible steel braided brake lines, front and rear New distributor cap, rotor button, and Bosch plug wires 65 Amp alternator upgrade New Bosch SR-71X starter/solenoid H-4 brighter headlight conversion Hella front foglights, operated by the factory BMW foglight switch in the dash Aftermarket performance swaybars (front and rear) 23mm, they appear to be Bilstein's, with urethane bushings and end links Aftermarket performance springs Interstate battery, relocated to the trunk for better front/rear weight balance Hi-wattage 6 speaker stereo with removable radio face-plate and MP3/iPod/cell phone input cable- Sounds Great!! Rear speakers covered under audio transparent rear deck cloth for stealth new BMW roundel badges front and rear Alarm system It has the factory steel wheels and tires still have good tread life. The car does not have the 2 front wheel center caps pictured to match the lack of caps in the rear. Mileage is unknown as it appears the dash has been replaced by a different unit (non-imitation wood veneer face) . Issues that need addressing at some point although don't prevent immediate and safe use of the car. There is a minor oil leak that appears to be around the front cover/head area. It does not significantly affect oil consumption between changes but does leave drops on the driveway. The undercarriage rubber bushings could use replacing as they appear to be the original items and wear is evident. This should deliver even greater handling/cornering to the new owner. The gas tank has a dent in the corner of it, not noticeable unless you look for it. I am including a perfectly good tank with the sale to correct this. Car runs fine with the current tank in the car. I have included 51 additional pictures of the car at the following link to help convey its condition. These are larger/higher resolution than what is displayed in the auction images (those are included as well) http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2011-5/1366491/2161229 This car has been a great driver that starts with ease (one stab of the accelerator and turn the key), turns, stops well and delivers crisp, surprising acceleration. Additionally, I have over $1,000 in spare parts for this car that I will sell to the winning bidder at a highly discounted rate (near 50%) if they are interested. Some of the more desirable items are as follows: set of black e21 Recaro seats with perforated centers, complete with sliders, rails and all required mounting hardware uncut black door panels exhaust header dual-tip period hi-flow muffler complete air conditioning system (minus compressor and hoses from dryer to evaporator in cabin) extra rear turn signal/brake light assemblies extra grill 318i radiator and fan shroud new K&N valve cover breather extra distributor with Pertronix electronic ignition setup Nardi leather steering wheel Raid leather steering wheel various interior trim pieces and several other parts I am forgetting... Please do not bid if you are not intent on paying as this car has sold twice on this site with the winning bidder not completing the auction. Shipping is the responsibility of the winning bidder although I will assist as much as possible in getting the vehicle to the transporter etc. Please e-mail with questions. Thanks for looking and best of luck.
