Vehicle Detail
1975 Honda 400f Supersport, 13,488 original miles, lightly restored, well kept and maintained original in excellent condition. Frame VIN (3604) and engine VIN (3648) match (meaning, as was Honda's practice, they are within approximately 50 numbers of one another). Starting with a very original, well maintained 400f which had been stored inside and regularly but gently ridden, this bike was thoroughly gone through mechanically and cosmetically. It has been ridden approximately 500 miles since completion of a light restoration which included complete tuneup and engine inspection, carbs rebuilt and synched, master cylinder rebuilt, front forks rebuilt, disc and drum brakes refurbished and adjused with new pads, wiring loom inspected and all wire runs tested, refurbished, and functional, wheel spokes torqued and balanced, clean tank and covers repainted in original color-matched varnish blue, and hours of cleaning, polishing, waxing, and elbow grease. New parts include tires, battery, clutch, chain, tires, brake pads, plugs, plug wires, points, cables, OEM-style seat cover, air and oil filter, grips, throttle tube, tank and cover stickers, miscellanous hardware, and too many other minor parts to mention. Headlight, electric starter and kick start, turn signals, horn, brakes, and clutch are all functional and up to OEM spec. Original tool tray and cover (not shown but included), tool kit and tools included. Muffler is new OEM-style Italian SAP chrome unit with original exhaust sound. This 400f starts right up, runs strong, idles beautifully at stock specs, pulls hard, and needs nothing. It has been tested (one-up and two-up) on the motorcycle roads of Southern California (you may have seen it at the Rock Store on Mullholland). It is ready for anything you can throw at it. Mature owner, never tracked, raced, redlined, or laid down. Unlike the too-low mileage trailer queens that have sat unappreciated for years or the rattle can jobs that fall apart on the road, this 400f is a proven, bullet-proof driver that can be ridden anywhere with confidence and still be in contention for best 400f at your local bike show. Consistent with a sympathetic restoration (meaning a restoration designed to preserve as much originality as does not conflict with strong mechanics and cosmetics), this 400f has some minor cosmetic flaws as shown in the pictures. These include some light rash on the underside of the collector (a little too aggressive maybe on a right-hander), minor blemishes on the engine case and front forks, very minor pitting on the rear wheel, and minor weathering on the underside seat pan (why remove original Honda markings?). This 400f is fully street legal and has clean California title and California registration good through May, 2012. This 400f may be viewed/inspected by appointment at Mad Max Motor Works in Newbury Park, California. Mad Max Motor Works is a custom vintage and race bike shop run by Max and Brendan who did the restoration work on this 400f. Visit Mad Max Motor Works on Facebook and see some of their latest creations, including a simply brutal '72 CB750 muscle bike and an exquisite '75 CB400f custom cafe racer. Although this 400f is bone stock, Max and Brendan specialize in building vintage bikes enhanced with period vintage as well as modern components like period Benelli gas tanks and state of the art electronic ignitions, custom wiring harnesses, Yamaha R1 and R6 suspensions and controls, 2 lb digital high capacity batteries the size of a cigarette pack, among other custom designed and fabricated components.
