Vehicle Detail
Selling my 1970 Mustang SportsRoof. I've owned it since I was 19 (1991) and have different interests now. I'd love to see it go to a good home, where someone will drive her and give her the respect she deserves. It is a Dearborn built car that was sold in Phoenix, AZ. I bought it in 1991 after it sat in a neighbors yard. It has the original 302 engine and C4 automatic transmission. The gentleman I bought it from had put a 351 Cleveland engine and a top-loader transmission, so if you are looking at the brake pedal and wonder what happened, he cut it to make it compatible with a clutch pedal. The car has been completely redone, however it is a DRIVER. A nice driver, but my intention was to never create a trailer-queen. It has been customized to make it comfortable, safe and convenient. If you are looking for a car to earn trophies with, this car might not be for you. If you are looking for a fun, easy to maintain car that you can take to cruise-night RIGHT NOW, this is for you. CONDITION: Clean: Non-smoker Older paint job, so will see some chips and bubbles...but still turns heads. Nice (non-1970) hood stripe and tail panel black out. Engine has upgraded ignition and fuel delivery system (with cut-off switch) A/C is cold Power steering/Disc brakes FEATURES: Completely updated interior done by a professional. Interior includes: New seats (custom cloth-insert seats with color-keyed embroidered "Mustang" script, leatherette bolsters and extra padding) New carpet, headliner, OEM dashpad ($$$) - Not a reproduction Kenwood 6 speaker stereo system with iPod connector (and USB) for MP3 POWER ANTENNA: No more busted aerials on car covers! Awesome center console with arm-rest and cup holders Mechanical gauges for Temp and Oil pressure Rare "square clock" on passenger side (works) Map light (works) New Door Panels New windshield... remainder of glass is original and tinted (optional on most cars, but came with A/C) Newer American Racing wheels and B.F. Goodrich T/A tires (very little wear... NOT ONE BURNOUT) - Front (P205/60R15) Rear (P295/50R15) 3 Point RETRACTABLE seat belts. If you know what the original seat belts were like on this car, you know why this is a big deal. Carpeted floor mats with embroidered "Running Horse" logo Lighted Step Plates with blue "Running Horse" logo ALL NEW FRONT SUSPENSION - Pics to prove it if wanted. Detroit locker rear end - 8 inch, not 9in...bummer New rear brakes and leafsprings Headers with new exhaust and Flowmaster mufflers Electric fuel pump and electronic ignition Electric fans... NO OVERHEATING. I've sat in traffic during the Woodward Dream Cruise and never had a problem. EXTERIOR: Dual racing mirrors Front and rear spoilers Factory paint color - Additional black racing stripes (needs some "age wear cosmetics") INCLUDES: 2 Car covers (1 evolution 3 car cover and 1 durafin car cover) 2 matching 1970 Michigan Plates (can be used in Michigan for historic vehicles) 1 Original 1970 Mustang print ad - from an old sports illustrated. Framed Running Horse Keys and Keychain I'm sure I'm missing something, so please ask any questions you may have. Other than the upholstery and paint, I've done all the work myself. On Aug-19-11 at 08:41:55 PDT, seller added the following information: *** UPDATED INFO: ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS *** I've had a lot of questions about the condition of the undercarriage. I completely understand your concern. The car has been garaged for the 20 years that I have owned it, however she isn't perfect. I showed the bubbling on the door, so you have seen that. The paint is older, so I'm sure she has some age-related issues under there. The frame rails, torque boxes and trunk are very solid. Solid, but not perfect. You won't see restored, show metal. I never intended to have a show-car with paint marks and factory stickers like some people strive for. The drivers side torque box is a little beat up. The trunk "drop offs" were replaced shortly after I bought the car because the previous owner didn't believe in a weather strip for the trunk. The gas tank was replaced for the same reason. The floorpans are solid, but show their age. If factory new is a 10, I would giver the underside a 7. Safe and solid, but not pretty. You could make it that way, but that wasn't what I was into. The car handles VERY well. I live in Metro-Detroit. You just don't see many people driving these things on our expressways. If you have every driven in Southeastern Michigan, you would understand. So, for those of you asking about highway driving, it just wasn't done very often. I have, but not for more than 30 minutes or so at a time. As far as shipping and $$$ exchange, I will work with you up to a point. Let's just say I'm open to suggestions. I'm a teacher, and school starts very soon, so I have to factor that in. BIG QUESTION: Why are you selling it at a much lower price than others on eBay? I'm selling the car for what I feel is a fair price. My wife and I are looking for a travel trailer to enjoy. I figured that I could buy a nice trailer for that price and someone could have a nice car in return. The $20,000 cars may have a larger engine, be a Mach 1, not need some TLC or a paint job or the owner might feel that their car is worth that amount. I'm not looking to get rich, just pay for a new interest. I truly feel that the car is worth more, but $13,000 pays for a new hobby in our lives. I just want it to go to a new home. My father and I worked on it, so I hope someone can benefit from the time we spend putting her together. Continue to ask me questions... I want to be as open and honest about the car as possible. On Aug-19-11 at 11:19:31 PDT, seller added the following information: *** UPDATE 2 FOR TODAY (8-19-2011) *** Put the car up on a lift today to take a few pics of the floorpans, etc. Never looked at car from that perspective. If I had to do the car over again, I would have found a lift to use. Anyway, you can see that the underside was not "restored". I slapped some undercarriage paint on it years ago (that is the reddish color you see). You can see the overspray from the paint job. As described, the floors, frame rails and rockers are solid. I was surprised to see the torque boxes are uglier than I remembered. The drivers side (picture) has a small hole in it and some surface rust. The passenger side has a 50 cent piece size hole in it. The trunk "drop offs" are great and look good. If I were keeping the car, I would use a lift and spend a weekend blasting the underside and put a nice coat of paint on it. It would really look good. The gentleman at the muffler shop commented on how nice the exhaust system is and "the interior is awesome". Someone with some time, passion and metalworking skills could do some magic to her. I hope that helps clear up some of the questions on the floor. One last common question is: The A/C. Everything except the evaporator has been replaced. I had no intention on tearing that dash apart. I recharge the A/C in the spring and add a little refrigerant throughout the summer. It is nice and cool. A few cans of refrigerant is worth not having to tear that dash apart to replace the evaporator. The time to replace that would be when you need a heater core. Again, I hope that clears it up. J.B.
