Vehicle Detail

1966 Plymouth Sport Fury with original J-Code 440 cubic inch V-8. This is truly an extremely rare car. I have heard from several sources that there were fewer than 100 '66 Furys (including all model lines, i.e. Fury I, II, III VIP and Sport Fury) produced with the 440 as original equipment!!! 1966 was the first year for the 440, replacing the 426 wedge that was available in the 1965 Sport Fury. The 440 sported 10:1 compression, a dual snorkel air cleaner, dual exhaust and a factory rating of 365 horsepower. The majority of 1966 Sport Furys were equipped with either the anemic Poly 318, or the 383. In the 8 years I have owned this car, I have seen only 2 other original J Code (440) powered examples, only one of which was the Sport Fury. Combined with the Torqueflite Automatic transmission, this was a very capable musclecar. Arguably, the larger C-body style is much better looking than the lower line Satellite. Certainly, the interior design is a large step above the smaller intermediates. Please see the link at the bottom of the page for over 100 high quality pictures!!! This particular 440 powered Sport Fury is in excellent overall condition. The color is a very attractive and distinguished Gold metallic. The interior was originally gold also. This has been changed to black using an interior from a parts Sport Fury. Exterior - The car was painted shortly before I purchased it in January of 2003. I purchased the car from a Kentucky used car dealer who acquired the car from the original owners, Fred and Wanda Self. I have pictures of a copy of the original title issued to the Self's, the original certicard, Warranty card and a partial maintenance record recorded in the original Owners manual. The car is extremely solid with no holes and very little surface rust on the floorboards. I have tried to photograph any and all flaws present on this beautiful car. On both rear lower quarters there are a couple spots starting to bubble, mostly on the passenger side. Other than that, there is no rust on the body, front fenders, doors, etc. There are a few small dings here and there, but very hard to see. In the trunk, you will notice that it is fairly clean, with only some pinholes in the trunk floor. A new trunk seal from Steele Rubber products and a new trunk mat were also installed. The Chrome on the car is in very nice condition with a deep shine. There are a few spots on the front bumper that are a little hazy. From 5 feet away, they look about perfect. Both bumpers are very straight! The paint was just wet-sanded and compounded and has a nice deep shine. However, I would not rate it as "show quality". In the right light, you can see some sanding marks beneath the paint. I assume this was done prior to the last repaint in 2002. Again, from 5 feet away, it looks awesome. Only on closer inspection do you really notice these. Look at the pictures and you will see that it is extremely presentable for going to the local cruise in. Interior - Other than being equipped with the super rare 440, this is now the car's strongest point. The car has a brand new carpet set. The door panels, dash pad, rear panels and special Sport Fury only molded package self are all in A-1 condition. The seats are also in excellent condition, although on the lower passenger side seat there is a small hole on the side near the door. The only flaws may be that the rear windows do not roll down easily (common on these old cars) and the plastic fillers on the sides of the back seatback are very brittle. In addition, an NOS clock was installed. Yes, it really does work!!! The interior is stunningly beautiful. The headliner has no rips or tears. In addition, I have installed a brand new molding (the molding that seals the windows) from Steele Rubber products. These really give it the finished look. It still does need a new set of door seals (you will see in the pictures that they are not all there.). The chrome trim on the back of the seatbacks is probably the finest I have seen on any C-body so equipped. On a scale of 1-10, the interior is probably a 9. There are also pictures of the floorboards prior to my installing the carpeting. Extremely clean with no rust!! Mechanical - The 440 fires right up and runs excellent. It has recently been tuned and has all the legendary power the 440 is known for. The transmission shifts fine. There are absolutely no noises or smoking. The dual exhaust sounds awesome!! The suspension feels tight and the brakes seem to stop fine, although there is an occasional squeek from teh shoes (4-wheel drums). Having said all that, I must admit that I have driven the car very little since I purchased it. I have several other cars and this was disassembled for most of the time I owned it. However, I have drove it quite a bit the last few months and am very impressed with how it feels. This car has loads of power!! The more I am driving it, the more I like it. When I purchased the car in Lexington, Kentucky, I did drive it from there to Bristol, Tennessee to visit family, then 500 miles home to Geneva, Ohio. I will let the pictures speak for the car. I have well over 150 pictures, so please ask if there is something in particular you want to see. Also, I was looking over the paperwork for the car and I just noticed that when I transferred it into my name back in 2003, that the title bureau here in Ohio listed the mileage at 110,450 rather than the 100,450 it had on it when I transferred it. The correct mileage is as listed above at 101,646 (plus a few additional miles since I first listed it). However, in an effort to be 100% honest about the car, I thought I should mention this. This is a beautiful car that turns heads whenever I show it. With a little work, it could be a $20,000 to $25,000 car! Here is a link to the photos: http://s1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa430/jpiotrowsk/ Please note that the date of 03/01/2008 is incorrect. I took those pictures on 07/21/2011. The other pictures dated 12/11/2010 are correct. When i changed the camera batteries, I did not check the date before taking the pics. DO SOME RESEARCH (Google 1966 j-code sport fury) AND YOU WILL VERIFY THAT THERE ARE VERY FEW J-CODE 1966 SPORT FURY'S OUT THERE. COMPARED TO OTHER FURY'S LISTED ON EBAY, THIS IS A STEAL. IT IS USABLE AS IS, NOT A PROJECT CAR. BID SOON. THIS IS TRULY A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY!!!! DO NOT MISS YOUR CHANCE TO OWN AN EXTREMELY RARE CAR. THERE MAY BE OTHERS AS NICE OR NICER, BUT NONE OF THEM HAVE A FACTORY INSTALLED J-CODE 440. WATCH ALL THE BIG AUCTIONS AND YOU WILL SEE THAT PRETTY MUCH ANY MAKE OR MODEL CAR WITH THE BIGGER FACTORY ENGINE IS ALWAYS WORTH MORE!!!! FOR PLYMOUTH FURY'S, THIS IS THE BIG DOG! NOT ONLY IS IT RARE AND UNIQUE, IT IS IN VERY NICE CONDITION. NOT PERFECT, BUT PERFECTLY USABLE.
