Vehicle Detail

1964 STUDEBAKER CRUISER 63K MILES - AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 289 V8 Up for auction is a rare 1964 Studebaker Cruiser. This was Studebaker's top of the line model in 1964. Research tells me they only made about 5000 Cruisers in '64. It's powered by a smooth running 210HP 289 V8 mated to an automatic transmission. Nope, it's not a Ford 289, it's all Studebaker. It looks to be a complete car with the exception of the owners manual. The engine starts easy, idles well and runs strong with excellent oil pressure. It runs out good but I couldn't go too fast because only the right front brake feels like it's stopping the car. Steering and suspension feel tight and smooth. All the windows roll up and down. The lights work, the radio works, signals work, gauges work, blower works. Please note, I only washed the car for the pics, nothing else. A good polish could really improve the luster. That being said, the Cruiser has been in storage for over 10 years so it does need some work. The exhaust pipe has a crack in it, but the Cruiser does not sound loud at all. There is a very small stone chip in the windshield. You can see in the pics, the carpet could stand replacement and it will also need a little patching in the floorboard area. There is a small hole on the driver's floor area by the black mat in the pics. It will need brake work, but I did notice a leaking brake line which runs to the rear brakes. There is an oil drip coming from the oil filter or valve cover gasket (I think) that makes its way to the exhaust. The body is very clean and straight as shown, with maybe one repaint. There is a scratch above the passenger rear wheel. The heavy duty frame does have rust as the pics show, but appears solid with no sagging. The suspension appears in very good shape. The upholstery could be redone or covered. The trunk has the original vinyl mat, but it's in pieces. The tires are old with some cracking, but the tread is good and they hold air. All in all, fix the brakes and you have a driver in my opinion. You could do even more to bring it back to it's original condition. Here's a neat little Studebaker commercial from 1964 touting the Cruiser! http://www.youtube.com/embed/koEDAMwkcxo What a great car!
