Beautiful, well-maintained, 1958 356 Vintage Speedster replica for sale by third owner. Spring, Summer, and Fall are Speedster driving months here in sunny Northern Callifornia. Seller has nearly all service records and car recently has been serviced and inspected by Der Wagon Shop in Orangevale, CA. 10,100+/- miles (car is driven regularly and mileage may be slightly higher at time of sale). Car was built in 2001 on a 1968 shortened, reconditioned Volkswagen chassis by Vintage Speedsters of Hawaiian Gardens, CA, incorporating their square tube space frame (see their web-site for details) and was originally sold by Classic Speedsters of Cataumet, MA. Car has always been registered, licensed as smog-exempt, and insured in California as a 1968 Volkswagen (please check your state for registration and smog requirements before bidding). Options include LIKE NEW HARTZ STAFAST TOP, FULL and HALF TONNEAUS, RIGHT HAND MIRROR, CUSTOM CAR COVER, DISK FRONT BRAKES, FRONT SWAY BAR, REAR CAMBER COMPENSATOR, REPRO SQUARE WEAVE CARPET, SISAL MATS, NARDI STEERING WHEEL, FULLY CARPETED TRUNK, MILD 1776 cc ENGINE WITH CUSTOM EXTRACTOR DUAL EXHAUST, DUAL SOLEX CARBURETORS, PERTRONIX IGNITION, and 3-1/2 QUART SUMP. While the car handles like a go kart it is not a hot rod but rather is a really fun to drive cruiser that requires only basic, routine maintenance. If you are looking for a Speedster replica beware of ones with the 1915 engine (thin cylinder walls) and a rear sway bar (will increase oversteer tendency, which is otherwise nicely mitigated by a camber compensator). It has no deferred maintenance, mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic issues and is ready to go whenever and wherever you want to drive it. The car is extremely clean inside and out and the pictures accurately depict its condition. If you are anti-social do not buy this car because a trip to the gas station, grocery store, or at stop lights on the road will inevitably attract a lot of folks who want to see the car and talk about it...indeed, this Spring and last I tagged along on a leg of the California Mille and the car drew more attention than the real Speedsters. The car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early. You are responsible for sales tax, licensing, and shipping.
