Vehicle Detail
I purchased this car in 2004 for $3,750 and have put a bunch of money into it. It came with a rebuilt engine with 40K miles and I've driven it less than 1,000 miles since. I replaced the gas tank with one from ZParts.com in CA (before they moved to OR), replaced the gas tank hoses, the sending unit gasket and cover, replaced the main engine seal (doesn't leak oil), had the engine tuned and carbs synched (Pat's Foreign Car Repair Deerpark OH), rebuilt the carbs with the Z Therapy kit, had the brakes checked and adjusted, replaced the fuel pump, battery, many new hoses, etc... I recently dropped over a grand on front end frame work (Schirmer Welding in Norwood OH). It runs great, very fast, a blast to drive. It was a midwestern car that rusted out and was repaired. The former owner repaired the body and replaced the floor boards and had reinforcing steel bars welded underneath. The paint is peeling in places and there are a couple cracks in the body repairs. (See pictures) The floor boards and the reinforcements have surface rust but are all very solid. The underside of the car looks a bit rough but Shirmer Welding said that it's all solid and sound. It still has a gas leak in the stem, it starts dripping gas when you over fill it. The headlights recently stopped working, could be a fuse or something, all the other parking and turn signals work. The dash has the ubiquitous Z cracks, the rest of the interior appears to be all original. Other than that it's a 30+ year old car with a lot of new parts but a lot of old ones as well. I hate to see it go but I hardly ever drive it.
