Vehicle Detail
1991 Lotus Elan M100 VIN: SCCGA36B8MHF27637 49 States Federal Version Calypso Red 59671 Miles Clear North Carolina Title Up for auction is a 1991 Lotus Elan M100. This is a 49 States Federal specification car. Vehicle identification number is as follows: SCCGA36B8MHF27637. It is equipped with the turbo-charged Isuzu engine with 5 speed gearbox. The color is Calypso Red with black interior. Reluctantly, I have to sell off my cars, as I am moving and I will not have the time or place to work on cars anymore. The car runs well but needs a couple of weekends of attention to put it back on the road. I have driven it around the neighborhood and it drives fine with plenty of power when the turbo spools up. The car is solid mechanically showing only 59671 miles on the six digit odometer. No funny noises or sounds from the engine or gearbox. The car brakes fine with all the pads showing plenty of wear left on them. The tires are older but have plenty of tread on them. The car has the original OZ rims with the passenger front showing some curb scuffing. The front wishbones and rear suspension members have surface rust, but pass the hammer test with clanging upon pecking them with a ball peen hammer. I would advise wire brushing them in the near future and treating with some sort of rust inhibitor. The fuel tank shows no leaks, but it is unknown if this vehicle received the factory recall replacement tank. The coolant has been flushed with a new thermostat installed. The oil and oil filter have been recently changed. Also, new spark plugs and serpentine belts have been installed. Being a British car, it does suffer from electrical gremlins. The following items either don’t work or work intermittently: horn, hazard flashers on passenger side, dash panel rheostat. For some reason, the headlights operate when the car is switched on. These are all likely ground related issues. The headlights have to be manually operated. This is due to the bushings inside the motors deteriorating. This can be fixed with about $8 worth of nylon bushings from Home Depot. They are the same motors as found on Firebirds, Fieros, and Corvettes. I rebuild the ones in my 1988 Fiero and it takes about an hour to do. More critically, the electric engine cooling fans are intermittent. I have traced it back to the radiator fan switch. Jumping the connector to ground operates the fans as it should when the ignition is on and operates the electrical coolant pump when it is off. I have ordered a switch but i can make no promises on if it will get here by the time the auction ends. The body is in good condition with a paint chip here and there. The most obvious defect is the clear coat has failed on the doors and rear spoiler. This is typical for a red Elan. With new paint it would be a very sharp car. The car has a brand new cloth top. The interior is in fair condition. The dashboard has no cracks. The interior panels are in good condition with no major blemishes. The driver’s seat shows the most wear with the leather on the outermost bolster being worn through. The car does not have a radio. However, there is Denon CD changer in the trunk, but it is not known if it is in operating order. The air conditioning kicks on but does not blow cool. The power windows and locks work fine. All in all, it is a good project car for someone. It is definitely for someone who knows how to use a wrench and not afraid to get dirty. Don’t expect to put gas in it and drive to California. The car is located in Frederick, Maryland. Serious inquiries and bidders only. Bid only if you have the funds to complete the transaction. $500.00 nonrefundable deposit payable within 24 hours of auction close.. Payment with 72 hours of auction close. Car must be picked up within 7 days of the auction close. Funds must be either cash or cashier's check drawn from US Bank. Cashier's check will have to clear before the car and title are released. On Jul-30-11 at 14:35:56 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: The headlight motors have been rebuilt and work great. Horn now works as well. The coolant switch has arrived and will go with the car.
