Vehicle Detail
This is a 1970 convertible that i have owned for nearly 14 years. I bought it in when i lived in Colorado from who I believe was the second owner. I put the body on a 1974 pan about 12 years ago because the 74 body had solid pans and recently rebuilt engine and trans. Before moving to california the car was registered in colorado as a "collector vehicle" which has a ten year registration period. because of that, it has not been registered in california. I have the colorado title. the odometer says 69,000 miles but i am sure that it has turned over. i have only put a couple of thousand miles on the car since i have owned it, so it may be accurate. The good: The car has essentially been stored in my garage for the past 12 years. I would use it a few of times a year, and keep it maintained. A few years ago i had the interior redone-(carpet, front seat covers, door panels) and the convertible top ( new header bow, vinyl top, insulation, and headliner) newer dash pad and door panels. All of this is still in very good shape as the car has only been used a handful of times. Engine and four speed trans are strong: good compression, Weber progressive carb, electonic ignition (no points to adjust) electric fuel pump, deep oil sump, performance exhaust dry, virtually rust free car that has spent most of its life in Colorado and California newer battery and starter this is the first model year of the real glass rear window, which does not scratch and fog up like plastic window, glass is in good shape. Things that may need attention: I had the car painted a couple of years back by an acquaintance. this was not a good experience. essentially the paint is an amatuer job that look pretty good from 25 ft away, but has some issues up close. when he tried to polish over some of the orange peeling, it made the paint look blotchy. i had always intended to have it resprayed, but since it looked kinda vintage and was at least protecting the body well, i never got around to it. it may be fine for an everyday driver, and maybe someone who knows what they are doing with compounds and the like, may be able to make it look better. the door striker plates may need some fine tuning, as the doors have a slight rattle over big bumps. this should not cost anything, but is just a trial and error adjustment done with a screwdriver. there is a lot of info on line about how to do this. the stock radio ( saphire) works but the tuning knob is stuck in one place. the stations can still be adjusted by using the buttons. Like most air-cooled vw's, this ghia does leave a few drips of oil after it has been running. not a whole lot though Details: the car will likely be listed locally, so i reserve the right to end the auction at any time. please do not bid, if not serious, i am willing to show the car to you if you want to make an appoinment. please ask any questions that you may have. i will answer as best i can The car will be sold as -is, and where-is. i would be willing to help out in getting the car shipped, but won't arrange it. I expect a 500 deposit by 48 hour after the sale and the remainder to be presented at delivery. all in certified bank funds. On Jul-20-11 at 15:21:08 PDT, seller added the following information: 7/20/11- I just noticed that listing defaulted the transmission type to Automatic. Although i describe the trans as a four speed in the description, i just want to be sure that it is clear: the car is a 4 speed manual transmission. thanks Also, several have asked about the tires. the tread is in near-new condidtion. the picture of the tire is representative of all of the tires. thanks
