1969 Volvo 1800S This is a very nice example of one of the most stunning designs ever created by Volvo. A timeless classic that has been well maintained to ensure it will run and drive as great as it looks, so if you have been waiting for a nice example of an early 1800S, this could be it! Exterior It is rare to find a nice rust free example of an early Volvo, and rarer still this example has spent the majority of its existence in the rust free Nevada basin. Originally a Dark Green, this vehicle received a bare metal re-spray done in Quartz Metallic, a color that looks simply stunning on this 1800S. The paintwork was completed in 2004, and remains in high gloss condition today. The original chrome shines brightly as does the original grill and trim work. The exterior badging was deleted to provide smoother lines, and if was not for the original badge on the front few today would even recognize this as a Volvo. Interior During the 2004 restoration the interior received new leather front seats, and a new carpet kit. The headliner, door panels, and rear seats are all original and in amazing condition for being 42 years old. The door panel pulls and dash have been fitted with plastic caps, and the dash cap has warped from the heat, additionally there is now a small split in the rear wheel arch leather (see pic). The 69 model is the last year of the big beautiful Art Deco blue and chrome instrument gauges. Unfortunately the Tachometer has a crack in the lens and the speedo and clock have long since stopped working, but the vertical dual temperature gauges works perfectly as does the fuel and oil pressure gauges. The original radio was bypassed for a satellite radio pod that mounts just in front of the shifter and sends the signal directly to the rear amplifier powering a subwoofer carefully hidden on top of the rear parcel tray along with two rear mounted speakers. The Sirus satellite service will of course have to be renewed by the new owner. Mechanical The 1969 Model is one of the more desirable 1800's as it features the updated front disc brakes and larger B20 engine, but still retains the simple SU Carburetors. This engine received a full rebuild in 2005 by an 1800 specialist at Volvo's Only in Los Angeles. The build included boring the block to receive a new .40 over piston set, along with all new bearings, oil pump, timing gear set, and full balance of the crank, rods, and flywheel. The head received all new valves and a D Grind Cam for added performance. The cooling system received a new water pump, cored radiator, and all new hoses. The twin SU's were rebuilt with new jets, shafts, and needles. The Suspension was updated with new upper and lower A Frame bushings and new trackrod panhard bushings. The A Arms and sway bar were fitted with new poly bushings, and then the front shock towers were reinforced and fitted with sport coil springs and new shocks at all four corners. The Steering System was renewed with new upper and lower ball joint kits, flex disc, and with new center link and steering rods ends. The brake system was fitted with new braided stainless brake lines, rebuilt front calipers, and new pads and shoes. Over $25k was invested in this vehicle from 2004 to current with nearly $13k in receipts for the mechanical work alone. As a result this 1800S starts, runs, and drives exactly as you would expect. The overdrive works perfectly, the car shifts smoothly, brakes straight, and drives wonderfully. The vehicle was recently tuned and serviced and the only item noted for future maintenance was a small amount of weeping from the transmission seals. Come To Vegas!
