Vehicle Detail
1950 Chevy 3100 1/2 ton Pick Up, This wasn't in the barn for the last 10 years but if it is important to you it was next to it, so lets call this a "next to the barn find". I teach a small automotive repair class in our small town and an old friend of mine asked me if I would be interested in and old Chevy truck? I love these old trucks and have three others right now, but I said yes. We found this one out by the barn, the tires still had air in them. I was told by my friend that an older gentlemen bought the truck some ten years ago and needed a place to work on it. He didn't finish it before passing away. When we got to her she looked like she does in the pics except we added the Viser I had laying around. We got it back to the shop and found that the motor wasn't stuck. Added some lubricant to each cylinder and cranked it over by hand, hooked a battery hit the starter and she spun freely. Added some points, plugs a condenser, wires, cap and rotor spayed some starting fluid in her throat and she fired right up. I know wow! Then to make her road worthy we installed a new gas tank, water pump, fuel pump cleaned the fuel lines and a good carb. Made a few adjustments and she could drive. Rolled her onto the rack and lifter her up. Pulled all the drums and found new shoes, wheel cylinders. Master cylinder was dry added some brake fluid and found a bad brake hose. Replaced both front brakes hoses and bleed and adjusted the brakes. Ive been driving her back and forth to work for the last three weeks. This truck is complete and stock except for the right rear wheel is a later style. All the rims are 15 inch, the charging system has been converted to 12 volt. We installed a new Interstate battery. OK, before you fall all over your self like I did when I was asked if I wanted her...She has a few flaws...even though I have been driving her back and forth to work I only live a half mile away. I do run around town with her all day long. Drivers side window cracked, same with door glass, The tires that were on her when we found her are the ones I have been running with, so at about 35 MPH she shakes from the flat spots. The clutch works but will slip if you really put your foot down, the three speed trans works great but has a small gear oil leak, but its so cool just cruising down the road. Rust...Yes, yes, and yes. All the normal areas, front floors pretty bad, bed front bottom, there is wood in the bed but it is bad as it gets, cab corners no doubt. Wiring is all original and it would be the first thing I would change. They are cheep. All the gauges work except for the water temp. Oil pressure is 0-30, when stated it pegs 30 and idles at 15, normal. OK, like I said this is no cream puff, but she runs down the road and everyone loves her. We are selling this one so we can finance the other projects the students and I are working on. And if she doesn't sell I will just keep driving her back and forth to work. The woman who gave us the truck said her late husband didn't have a title. I have the antique Kansas license plate that came with the truck. So I will give you a bill of sale. In Texas I can get a bonded title for about $300, and will if she doesn't sell. Any questions just e-mail and if your local and want to go for a ride do the same. There is no warrenty if your not sure come and look at her!
