Vehicle Detail

1961 Mercedes-Benz 220SEb Coupe European-Model W111 This luxurious model was the last of the hand-built Mercedes. Only 13 cars per week rolled off the production line. Unlike other automobiles, these cars were classics the day they rolled off the production line, and have remained so ever since. The 220SEb was first introduced in 1961 and was considered to be an immediate success. Road & Track magazine said "one of the best-looking body designs to come from any German concern." It is exquisitely proportioned and beautifully designed. Luxurious may very well be an understatement when describing this model!!!! Up for auction is European Model 1961 Mercedes Benz 220SEb Coupe, 4-Speed manual (VIN# 111.021.10-023521). 1961 is the very FIRST production year of 220SEb Coupes, making this particular Mercedes even more rare and special. Another very rare option that this car comes with is manually operated sunroof! Only 14,173 220SEb Coupe’s were made in the period of 1961-1965! The mechanical fuel injection, disc brakes and other improvements, made it the most sophisticated car on the road. Today, she is 50 years old, and even after all those years, she still have that beautiful and timeless charm, and with its grace and beauty she will be stopping the local traffic and turning heads for years to come!! For a human being, 50 years is a good amount of time, but to an automobile it’s an eternity! The ravages of time aren’t just from nature. Tastes change, trends die, and once-envied designs have a way of looking absurd. Once in a while though, an automobile endures despite all this, and ultimately, becomes a classic. This Mercedes is that automobile! This car is an original and unmolested example of the timeless German luxury automobile! Gentleman that owned this car before me originally purchased it in Germany in 1982 from its first owner. Among other paperwork, original books and manuals, it also comes with original German Bill of Sale, and original German License plate and registration. This car used to be his daily driver until he parked it into storage several years ago. I am pretty sure that with fresh tune-up, fresh gas, and some things here and there it will start up fine, but as I don’t have time to do it, I am selling it as non-runner car! Car does roll, steer, and brakes without any problems. From whichever angle you look at this car, you are always struck by its racy elegance and aesthetic balance of stylistic elements. Paint has nice shine, and from 10-15 feet away looks nice and presentable, but upon closer inspection you can notice some blemishes and imperfections in it mainly due to its age. Doors open and shut nicely and tightly, and the body is nice and straight. Chrome is all compete, and all glass is nice and clear. Combined with its original Blue Leather Interior, this car looks very elegant. Its body is straight and solid and undercarriage is original and unmolested, but there is some rust on the floorboards, usual suspects on these cars. Replacement floorboards are easy to find, and not very expensive to get. Original VIN# stamping is still present in the front radiator support, showing the originality of this car. Original Blue Interior is all complete down to its original Kienzle Clock. Wood is all complete, and in great condition, showing its beautiful aged patina. Leather seats are showing their age, and would need to be reupholstered, but are still very comfortable and supportive. Carpet and headliner need to be replaced. Door panels are in great condition, and all windows roll up and down with ease, including the manually operated sunroof, rare and very desirable option on these coupes! Also, as this is European Model Coupe, all instruments are in Metric units (KM/h, Celsius, etc) NADA Values: http://www.nadaguides.com/Classic-Cars/1961/Mercedes-Benz/220SEB/2-Door-Coupe/Values Pricing Original MSRP Low Retail Average Retail High Retail $8,091 $14,050 $20,500 $31,600 Options: (add options) See all options chosen TOTAL PRICE $8,091 $14,050 $20,500 $31,600 This beautiful antique Mercedes will only continue to appreciate in its value, and with time, these cars are harder and harder to come by, especially the original European models!
