Vehicle Detail
This is a 1 owner 1966 Chevelle that has been in my hometown since new. I grew up watching these ladys drive this car all the while I was growing up. These 2 sisters were given this car as a graduation present in 1965 as the new cars were just coming out in October. I hadnt seen the car in several years, and found they had stopped driving it about 12 years ago. I have been talking to them about selling it for about 3 years now, and in January they both agreed to part ways with it. They had the original owners manual, dealer invoice where they bought it and the service sheet for delevery, and the protect-o-plate warranty. The car is a 2 speed powerglide with a 283. It has power steering, factory bucket seats & console. The car has sat outside in the weather all its poor life & the chrome & stainless shows it! The sisters had the seats recovered at a local shop back in the 80's, & one re-paint in the mid-90's. I really wasnt ready to take on another restoration this soon after selling one I just completed, but I had been trying to convince the sisters to sell, so I couldnt pass this up, and as you Chevelle guys know, you just DONT find 1 owner 1966 Chevelle's just setting around anymore! This is a good car for a Super Sport clone, because of the bucket seats & console. I bought a new SS hood with inserts, & started cleaning the car out. The floor pans are in very good shape with only a few pin-holes that would be a quick fix. The trunk floor needs replacing & the lower quarters needs only patch panels. The back glass panel seems fine with no rust showing around none of the glasses. The lip that holds the trunk weather-stripping needs repaired on the panel between the back glass & on the left side of the trunk latch. I have found both sections on another car & will cut them out and they will go with the car for the repair. I wanted to get the car driving again so I have fixed several things. I did a complete brake job with new wheel cylinders, and rear brake line replaced, installed a new radiator, thermostat, plugs, wires, distributor, timing chain, oil & filter, heater hoses, battery, fuel tank & sending unit , installed new quick ratio steering box, pulled one head & repaired a burned valve, sand blasted the rims & installed new tires, The engine has 50 psi oil pressure cold & 40 hot! Dont let me mislead you, the motor & trans needs rebuilding, but you can drive this car down the road or as you may need to move it around as you restore it. The hubcaps on the car are for pictures only. The car will come with the 4 original GM spoked hubcaps. Again, this car is complete & "UNMOLESTED" but needs complete interior, and total restoration! On Jun-27-11 at 18:20:49 PDT, seller added the following information: I have added pictures of what rust the car has. Both doors have small amounts at coroners, inside passenger door jam has small patch & what looks to be the biggest is only surface rust where the paint has peeled off, hit it with a grinder or sand blaster & your down to clean metal. If I keep this car, I will replace both front fenders, simply for the fact that new fenders take less time to prep, sand blast the lower door corners & jam & make repairs, install both lower quarter patch panels, & install trunk floor, then send it to the body shop for final prep & paint.
