Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a cool old barn find 1960 Austin Mini Cooper. This little mini has been sitting in a hay barn for nearly 30 years. I bought this mini with the intension of building a race car out of it but since I’ve owned it I have talked to so many mini enthusiasts that darn near threaten me, or let just say highly discouraged me from doing so,with such an original car that I have decided to sell this one and buy one that has already been stripped of all its original gear. After pulling it from its resting place I did the normal fluid changes and break check, new battery and overall check up and it started right up. Needless to say the original little 850 engine runs very good and doesn’t mind plain old 87 unleaded gas. Nearly everything except the horn and back up light works great. This little car is a riot to drive and actually gets down the road way better than I had anticipated. The brakes all work fine the engine does not smoke and Ive driven it about 550 miles since it was pulled from storage. So there’s good and bad to every vintage car story, and this one is no exception. “The bad”. There is some body filler on the cowl and where the back of the hood meets on both sides, the work looks good enough that I didn’t see it, but a mini enthusiast told me that was a common area for rust and this one has been repaired there, plus front floor boards have been replaced which I would also consider to be in “the good” column. There are a few very small rust holes in the back floor boards where the rear passengers heals would be but these are very small and could be remedied with truck bed liner epoxy which I’m told is also a very common cure for this in minis or just drive it as it is and avoid snowy days. The clutch is hydraulic in this car, and it works well but it should be re-bleed because you have to pump the pedal occasionally to keep a firm clutch pedal, this is a very easy fix and if I have time I will have it re-bled before the new owner arrives, the head liner needs a little TLC and the oil drain plug o-ring needs to be replaced because it leaks a drop or two after its been run. The paint is faded but most people are so impressed with this cars originality that people tend to like its patina over a perfectly glossy paint job. I live in a small tourist town and being an ebayer I have to ship many packages weekly, this is the perfect car to run errands with the only problem is everywhere it’s parked someone always wants to know all about it so it takes a little extra time. “The good”, everyone loves this car, it is incredibly reliable and original, as I mentioned before nearly everything works as it should and the few little things that don’t could be fixed for no more than a couple of hundred bucks max at any repair facility. The car drives straight and true and will cruise nicely at around 55 mph and a top speed of about 75, but it’s really buzzin at that speed. Incredibly this car gets around 60 MPG I was very surprised the first time I put gas in and it only took 5 gallons to fill it up from empty and I drove it 330 miles from that time. It has plenty of head room for a 6 foot tall driver and you can easily carry 4 people in it. The wheels and tires are all in good condition including the spare and the original jack is still with the car. And it has a very cool original London Autoclub badge on the front grill, which I’m told are quite expensive. Speaking of London, this Mini is registered in the USA and I hold a clear Michigan Title in hand, that can be a big deal on some minis that don’t have the proper US paperwork and this one does. If you want a pristine perfect Austin Mini don’t buy this car, it’s not for you. But if you like tinkering or driving a practical vintage car that just makes you feel good when you drive it, and you don’t have to be afraid of getting a small scratch in your four thousand dollar paint job, then this little mini may be for you. So far the car has been very reliable I know I wouldn’t hesitate to drive it darn near anywhere. Here are two small youtube videos so you can see it in a full 360 degree view and a video of it driving. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGVXUlnh8p0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdoN-okkjSc Feel free to ask questions.
