Vehicle Detail
After realizing I cannot seem to make the time needed to properly restore my car the way it should be restored, plus the fact I would rather modify a 1970-71 Esprit or non-Ram Air Formula to pro street (can't bring myself to cut this car up due to rarity in pedigree). I have come to terms and balanced out what is realistic and what is just male testosterone. So I am putting my car for sale regretfully.... 1970 Pontiac Formula 400 Ram Air III with a Muncie M-21 (close ratio) 4-speed trans and 12 bolt 3:73 posi rear. Optional Lucerne blue ext w/ bright blue deluxe int, 15" Rallye package, chrome trim package, heavy duty suspension with front disc brakes and no luxury options, not even rear defrost as this car was ordered like an old school Poncho drag pack like you seen back in the days of the full chassis Pontiac 421 SD cars. The car is all original matching numbers with 44k original miles and PHS Documentation is included. This is a car that bows to no muscle or pony car in stock form as this is amongst some of the fastest Pontiacs ever released from the factory thanks to weight x HP on the way this car was ordered and the perfect investment due to extreme rarity. Try and find another ordered like this one, all I can tell you is good luck. You might find a Firebird, Formula or even another Formula RAIII but not one that has been ordered like this one. I am yet to find another identical to this one in all these years as your common turbo 400 auto, M-20 (wide ratio) 4-speed and 10 bolt 3:55 with luxury options although still rare, seems to be your common. It does have rust in the common places found with the f-bodies and rot in the quarters. Just so we are clear, she is partially disassembled in roller form now and needs a full restoration but she is all here, all matching numbers, a solid platform with solid rails and excellent candidate for the investment. I have seen other cars needing more that are worth less and were restored to a lucrative classic so I have no doubts with this one as even the same year Trans Am Ram Air III's can't touch her growth in price tag or the rarity. There is nothing to hide with the vehicle as I previously stated, she is partially disassembled so it is all there to see and check the numbers on if you like to come and see her in person. This is a very sought out, rare muscle/pony car that's even more rare due to the way factory ordered. I do not have a title, as these cars came with none in this era and I was going to do the Broadway title thing but apparently you cannot obtain one in NY without the car passing a safety inspection and having insurance which I obviously cannot do due to the car being apart but again I have PHS documentation and I will be happy to give a bill of sale as well as anything else needed. Everything is there right down to the original AM radio, original Rochester 4bbl carb and even the factory Hurst shifter. Only thing not here is the original windshield that cracked being removed but easily found and cheap enough to replace. She is even still on her Good Year Poly glass tires! This is a once in a life time chance as the car is well worth the reserve in it's condition and I know if anyone knows these cars, they know it too. In case curiosity has you wondering, she sat in a garage since 1982 when I came across her and brought her home. I got the motor to spin and stopped there to restore her but I really wanted to do a pro street build. But due to the research confirming her rarity I did, I knew she was too rare a pedigree to cut and decided to stop there and put her on the back burner to restore as an investment while trying to find a less rare 70-71 bird to build but marriage and 3 kids has finally brought reality to the whole situation and I realized it would be best to sell her to someone that appreciates these cars. If interested and have any questions or need any specific information please feel free to call me between the hours of 2pm to 9pm eastern Time at 1 (347) 526-0871 . "Again all matching numbers and original" 400 RAIII engine Muncie M-21 4-speed 12 bolt limited slip rear with 3:73 gears Drive train complete with intake, carburetor and the Ram Air filter cover, boots, etc... Operational Ram Air Hood with all attachments Fenders, endura nose, etc All glass except the windshield. (an easy replacement none the less) Interior needs to be fully redone but all there with the only year stock headrest buckets and it is a deluxe interior as well. Complete factory gauge cluster with 160 speedo and the Ram Air tach (there is a difference in redline between a RA and non- RA tachometer) Factory 15" Rally wheels with the polyglass tires still on them (tires are dry rotted of course but hold air for the most part to move). and everything else that came on this car from the factory. So do your homework and see how much money in parts alone this car is worth with this rare and once in a life time find and you will know the reserve is no where near the vehicles value. According to PHS these true Ram Air Formulas go up an average of 15% a year minimal now that they have been noticed, so it does not take rocket science to figure out the worth on one as rare as this one. You cannot surpass the value of this car restoring it, especially if you are doing your own work. I am just being straight forward so we clearly understand where I stand on the value before you bid. One of the last true Ponchos models before low compression, emission suffocation and corporate intervening came to be and she is extremely rare and complete with the rare and special option colors. Please do not ask what my reserve is at, as this is an auction and needs to be fair. However it is lower then the buy it now price. Pictures below are from when I first got the car and during the disassembling. I posted the rot on the right 1/4 which is the worse spot on the car so there are no surprises and the worse rust on the top section of the cowl by the A-pillars that is common on these F-bodies. The car is now setup with doors on and sitting on tires to roll. (nose is still off). I figure this will make it easier to inspect that all numbers match, work needed and a happy medium for transport in doing so. On Jun-16-11 at 12:00:02 PDT, seller added the following information: I have pulled the stamps and ID numbers as asked and are as follows: 400 RAIII - ws code / stamp matches vin, / build date code is L119 / Block casting number is 9799914 Heads - stamped 12 / build date code is A080 Intake - 9799068 Distributor - 1112024 with the build date code 0A12 Carburetor - Rochester Quadrajet ID numbers stamped 7040270 1737 Muncie M-21 4 spd - 3925661 / with 3952648 with what appears to read 3-12 on opposite side of casing (Tail shaft reads 3857584 GM) As it seems I do not see the original exhaust manifolds and have to assume they are not with the car until further notice should I find the box they were in. I will lower the reserve and the buy it now price to reflect this. Anything further just let me know... Thank you
