Vehicle Detail

1955 Studebaker Champion Hot Rod California Car With Chevy Small Block V8 · California BLUE PLATE car – I purchased this Studebaker from a guy in Bakersfield, CA a few years back · This is a very dry solid California car that appears to have been Hot Rodded many years ago · I intended to put a 53/54 nose on it but ended up finding a nice complete 54 · I believe this car was originally corral and black two tone from the factory · When it was hot rodded it was painted charcoal gray; it seems to have been a pretty basic enamel re-spray; it is coming off in places and you can see the solid original paint underneath · The interior metal was painted maroon and the upholstery is black vinyl; the headliner is falling down · The engine is a Chevy 350 V8 (block casting code is 3970010); the engine suffix code is TKY which according to some information I found on the internet means it is a truck 350 from either 1974, 1978, or 1980 (I could not see the date code with the engine in the car); it has an old Carter 4BBL on it · According to the guy I bought it from it has a turbo 350 transmission · The guy I bought it from also said it has a Ford 8” rear end in it (but I have not verified that it does) · It appears to have Ford steel wheels on it (but I am not sure) · It still has an old set of bias ply white walls on it · After sitting in my garage for years, I recently put a battery charger on it and started easily (third crank); I put some fresh gas in it and drove it around the neighborhood; it runs quite well; the brakes work and the transmission shifts; the engine starts and runs surprisingly well · While driving it around the neighborhood (with 3 people in it) I noticed the tires seemed to rub a little (I don’t think the offset of the wheels or the rear-end width are perfect for the car) · With a little TLC I think a person could drive and enjoy this car the way it is while they continue to improve it – it has a cool vibe the way it is; alternatively, it is a solid candidate for a full-blown restoration · Everything should be checked because this car has been sitting for a long time · This is an unrestored old car (it is 56 years old); taking its age into consideration it is in remarkable condition; here are some of the flaws that jumped out at me: Although the chrome on the grill is quite good there is a dent and crack toward the left (drivers) side which appear to be from a parking lot bump I noticed that there is a dent in the left headlight trim ring as well There is a dent on the right quarter panel down low in front of the rear tire The headliner is falling down The interior looks old but is also pretty dirty (might clean up?); the carpet is very faded The re-spray is faded and thinning and has rubbed or flaked off in places and has sundry other imperfections · The odometer indicates 02811.8 which I interpret to be 102,811 miles · The car has always been garaged since coming to Kentucky · Location: Bowling Green, KY – home of the Corvette Museum and Assembly Plant Please call (270) 791-3210 or email with questions If you are seriously interested in the car and would like to see it before bidding, I would be happy to show it to you. Please call me to make an appointment. SATISFACTION GUARANTY If you come look at the car and you don’t like it you don’t have to take it! Please read the following for the satisfaction guaranty that I am willing to offer to the winning bidder. I have carefully described this car to the best of my ability and I am confident that my description is accurate. I also recognize that any description of a car’s condition is, to a great extent, based on opinion. If you are the winning bidder and you come to look at the car and it does not meet with your satisfaction for any reason, I will NOT insist that you buy the car based on the eBay “contract.” I like easy transactions so no pressure here. If you exercise the guarantee you agree to leave positive feedback and I will do the same for you once I have received positive feedback. Your investment will be your time, travel cost and the eBay listing fees. I will refund your remaining deposit reduced for the eBay listing fees. For this guarantee to work you have to come look at the car prior to taking delivery (this guarantee is not available if you choose to have the car shipped due to the costs and complications of shipping). Since your actual purchase of the car will be upon your approval after inspecting it in person, you don’t have to worry about feeling forced into buying a car that does not make you happy. CORVETTE MUSEUM / CORVETTE PLANT This Studebaker is located in Bowling Green, KY, minutes from the National Corvette Museum and the Plant where the Corvette is assembled.
