1962 FORD GALAXIE 500 LOW AND REASONABLE RESERVE THIS GALAXIE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN INDIANA AND HAS STAYED IN THE FAMILY UNTIL I BOUGHT IT IN JAN 2011. IT WAS LAST DRIVEN IN 1988, NEVER WRECKED, AND HAS REMAINED IN A GARAGE EVER SINCE. I PURCHASED IT TO FIX IT UP AND DRIVE IT, BUT NOW RECENT HEALTH PROBLEMS FORCES ME TO SELL MY PROJECTS. THIS IS A NICE CAR...PLEASE READ HERE IS WHAT I HAVE DONE: I CLEANED THE CAR INSIDE AND OUT. EVERYTHING IS IN PRESENTABLE CONDITION EXCEPT THE SEATS THAT YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICS AND 4 RUST HOLES (1 in the trunck, baseball size...1 on the pass floor board roughly 6x3 inches...1 on the drivers floor board roughly 4x5 inches and one on bottom of core support under radiator). ALL GLASS IS VERY CLEAN EXCEPT WINDSHIELD HAS WIPER SCRATCHES ON PASS SIDE AND KEY(?) SCRATCHES ON DRIVERS SIDE (not bad though). WIRING IS GOOD, DOORS AND WINDOWS ALL FUNCTION SMOOTHLY. PAINT IS NICE EXCEPT FOR A FEW SCRATCHES AND A BROWN PAINT DRIP ON PASS DOOR. BRAKES...NEW POWER BRAKE BOOSTER (painted), MASTER CYLINDER, BRAKE LINES, WHEEL CYLINDERS, BRAKE SHOES ON THE FRONT AND BACK, FOUR SUPER CLEAN DRUMS THAT WERE ALL RESURFACED, FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS AND SEALS, VACUUM HOSE USING NEW CLAMPS FOR THE BOOSTER AND ALL NEW NUTS BOLTS CLIPS ETC. IF YOU HAD THIS DONE AT MIDAS, THIS WOULD COST OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR ALL THE NEW PARTS AND THEIR LABOR (I called and checked). FUEL SYSTEM...GAS TANK WAS REMOVED AND CLEANED WITH M.E.K. (METHYL ETHYL KETONE), TANKS SUPPORT STRAPS CLEANED AND PAINTED, MOUNTING BOLTS CLEANED AND PAINTED, ALL METAL FUEL LINES CLEANED OUT, ALL RUBBER FUEL HOSES REPLACED WITH NEW CLAMPS, FUEL FILTER HOUSING CLEANED AND FILTER COVER PAINTED, NEW FUEL FILTER, ORIGINAL FORD CARB (with tag) REBUILT USING A FOMOCO NOS KIT, ACCELERATOR LINKAGE REMOVED AND CLEANED, THROTTLE AND KICKDOWN SPRINGS CLEANED AND PAINTED, RUST FREE ORIGINAL AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY CLEANED, PRIMED AND PAINTED AND THE CARB SPACER WAS CLEANED WITH NEW HOSES AND CLAMPS. ENGINE...(352-2V), NEW SPARK PLUGS, WIRES, DISTRIBUTOR CAP, ROTOR, POINTS, CONDENSER, REPLACED ONE CORE (freeze) PLUG, NEW WATER PUMP, NEW THERMOSTAT, 4 NEW PUSHRODS, DISASSEMBLED, CLEANED AND REINSTALLED ROCKER ARMS, CLEANED AND PAINTED ENGINE (painted front only), COMPLETELY CLEANED AND PAINTED THE ORIGINAL AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY, POWER STEERING PUMP, PULLEY AND ITS BRACKETS, GENERATOR BRACKETS, OIL FILLER TUBE AND CAP, INTAKE MANIFOLD, VALVE COVERS, WATER PUMP PULLEY, FAN SPACER, FAN, OUTER CRANK PULLEY AND TIMING TAB (painted timing marks bright white...looks great), TIMING CHAIN COVER, ETC...FRESH OIL AND FILTER, NEW ANTIFREEZE, BRAKE FLUID AND P/S FLUID. SUSPENSION AND UNDER CAR...I CLEANED THE FRONT SUSPENSION AND STEERING COMPONENTS. THE ONLY THING I FOUND BAD WAS THE IDLER ARM, WHICH I HAVE NOT REPLACED (available). THE REST OF THE ITEMS ARE REALLY CLEAN, SOLID AND READY TO GO. THE POWER STEERING VALVE AND ACTUATOR ARE VERY CLEAN (the boot is tattered, but that's it). ALL OF THE METAL AND RUBBER HYDRAULIC LINES ARE CLEAN, NOT RUSTED OR CRACKED. CHANGE THE IDLER AND IT'S GOOD TO GO. BOTH MOTOR MOUNTS ARE CLEAN AND SOLID. THE FRAME IS VERY CLEAN, REAR AXLE IS NOT A LEAKER, INNER AND OUTER WHEEL WELLS ARE VERY NICE OTHER NEW...HEADLIGHTS, HEADLIGHT SWITCH, FUSES, GENERATOR BELT, SOME BULBS, HOSES, ETC INITIALLY, IT STARTED RIGHT UP AND RAN PRETTY GOOD. I DISCOVERED A LEAKING EXHAUST MANIFOLD GASKET ON THE PASS SIDE REAR CYLINDER (loud until warm). THERE IS A NEW EXHAUST MANIFOLD GASKET SET IN THE TRUNK, SO THAT WILL BE EASY TO FIX. ALL OF THE MAIFOLD BOLTS ARE CLEAN AND SHOULD POSE NO PROBLEMS COMING OUT. THE POWER STEERING WORKS PERFECTLY, REALLY NICE AND SMOOTH. THE TRANSMISSION GOES INTO GEAR JUST FINE AND SHIFTS CORRECTLY. THE TIRES ARE CHEESY BUT HOLD AIR, SO I DIDN'T TAKE IT OUT ON ANY MAIN ROADS, JUST AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD. ALL IN ALL IT RAN AND DROVE VERY WELL. THE NEXT DAY, FOUR PUSHRODS BENT DUE TO VALVES STICKING. I FREED THE VALVES AND INSTALLED NEW PUSHRODS. NOW, AFTER I CLEANED AND PAINTED THE ENGINE AND ALL THAT STUFF, IT WONT RUN RIGHT AND SOMETIMES MAKES A BANGING NOISE. MY FRIEND THINKS THE BANGING IS THE STARTER HITTING THE FLYWHEEL AND MY OTHER FRIEND SWEARS IT IS THE FLEXPLATE. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT, BUT I THINK THE IDLING PROBLEM IS THE CARB SPACER TO MANIFOLD GASKET IS LEAKING AIR (it may be the wrong one). I AM SURE SOMEONE CAN FIX ALL THESE ISSUES QUICKLY. I JUST CAN'T DO THIS STUFF ANYMORE (health). THE INTERIOR...HOLE IN THE BACK SEAT BOTTOM AND THE PASS SIDE BOTTOM CORNER. THE FRONT SEAT HAS SEAM SPLITS AND A TEAR. BUT THE EDGES AND WELTING ARE ALL IN GREAT CONDITION. CONSIDERING THE CAR WASN'T EXPOSED TO THE DIRECT SUNLIGHT ALL THESE YEARS, A GOOD UPHOLSTERY SHOP SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIX THAT QUICKLY AND INEXPENSIVELY. THE DOOR PANELS ARE ALL DECENT WITH THE MYLAR COMING OFF, AND THE DRIVERS SIDE SEEMS MOISTURE BUCKLED (take it off and lay it flat with weight and that should fix that...not trasehed). I DO HAVE THE DRIVERS ARMREST. HEADLINER IS CLEAN WITH VERY MINOR DISCOLORING ON SOME EDGES BUT NO RIPS. VISORS ARE SOLID AND MOVE FREELY. STEERING WHEEL IS CRACKED AT TYPICAL POINTS BUT NOTHING UGLY. RADIO MISSING BUT WIRES ARE STILL THERE. GLOVE BOX LINER IS OK. THE WINDOW CRANKS (and door handles) ARE ALL REALLY NICE AND THE VENT WINDOWS ARE SWEET. PEDALS ARE CLEAN SHOWING CORRECT WEAR FOR MILEAGE. WIPERS WORK FINE AND SO DOES THE BLOWER MOTOR IN ALL THREE SPEEDS. PACKAGE TRAY IS INTACT AND PRETTY CLEAN. FRONT SEAT MOVES FREELY. CARPET IS FAIR TO POOR...NOT RIPPED BUT JUST OLD. THE EXTERIOR...NO RUST THROUGH ON THE OUTER PANELS, WITH JUST MINOR DISCOLORATION IN THE DOOR JAMBS, THE EDGES OF THE DOORS (only in some places) AND THE TRUNK LIP, BUT NOTHING UGLY AT ALL (it is actually super nice considering it's almost 50 years old). THERE IS A TENNIS BALL SIZE HOLE IN THE TRUNK (the only damage in the trunk) RIGHT BY THE TAIL LIGHT ON THE FLAT FLOOR SO AN ESY FIX, A HOLE IN THE PASS FRONT FLOOR AND A HOLE IN THE DRIVERS FRONT FLOOR BOARD. OVERALL, THE CAR IS 95% RUST FREE (just approximating). THE GRILLE IS VERY NICE, THE POLISHED TRIM IS ALL THERE AND HAS ONLY MINOR ISSUES (mostly needs buffed and will give a mirror shine, some pieces shine that way now). THE WHEEL WELL CHROME IS REALLY NICE. THE HOOD AND TRUNK HAVE SOME POO ON THE OUTER FRONT INSIDE EDGES, BUT AGAIN, NOTHING UGLY. ANTENNA IS OK AND THE WIRE HAS THE RADIO PLUG ON IT AND IS READY TO INSTALL IN A RADIO. MISSING PASS SIDE KICK PANEL. REAR VIEW MIRROR IS OK, SIDE VIEW A CHEAP REPLACEMENT FROM THE 70'S. NEEDS....ENGINE/RUNNING PROBLEM SOLVED, GENERATOR, BATTERY, TIRES AND MUFFLER (original stainless steeel exhaust still on the car!). I JUST CAN'T WORK ON IT ANYMORE. I NEED THE MONEY AND DON'T HAVE THE TIME OR ENERGY TO FINISH IT. THIS IS A GREAT CAR AND WILL BE A GREAT DEAL FOR WHOMEVER BUYS IT. THE CAR NEEDS FINISHED AND SHE CAN BE DRIVEN ANYWHERE. I HAVE DONE THE HARD AND DIRTY WORK. IT'S A VERY NICE CAR THAT NEEDS SOME ATTENTION TO BE A SAFE AND RELIABLE DRIVER. COMES WITH A COMPUTER CD COVERING THE BODY AND CHASSIS PARTS MANUAL AND INCLUDES THE ELECTRICAL SCHEMATIC, AND I AM ALSO INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL 1962 FORD SERVICE MANUAL AND A CD WITH EVERY PICTURE I HAVE TAKEN DURING THIS PROCESS. LIKE I SAID, I WAS GOING TO KEEP IT, BUT SADLY I HAVE TO SELL IT. SUPER EASY PICKUP IN NORTHERN INDIANA 1 MILE FROM THE 80/90 TOLL ROAD. THERE IS A UHAUL WITHIN 5 MILES OF THE VEHICLES LOCATION, IF YOU NEED TO RENT A TRAILER TO GET IT BACK TO YOUR PLACE. A TRAILER WILL BE NEEDED TO PICK IT UP.
