Vehicle Detail
Selling off the last of my projects. This 1959 Chevrolet Brookwood 4 door station wagon was a car I recently picked up to restore but decided to stick with the 1966 Caprice wagon I already have. Purchased from the original family I am told it was purchased new in Texas then had a travel trailer hitched up to it before making the relocation trip to California. It has been in Northern California (Sacramento area) it's whole life but was left outside and unattended for the past 30 years or so. The car is completely original (including the seat upholstery). It is equipped with a 235 6 cylinder and 3 speed on the column. It has the original radio and recircultating heater and it has the deluxe package offered on Biscaynes and Brookwoods that included the horn ring, passenger side sunvisor, cig lighter, and fender ornaments which were items you got as standard eqipment if you bought a Bel Air or and Impala new in 1959. The only modifcations that I can see are trailer brakes and trailer hitch hook ups and after market under dash AC. The windshield wiper motor is missing so I do not know if it was a single speed or a two speed but I can go play with the knob on the dash if someone needs to know. Everything else appears intact and on the car. As for the body, it has the usual rust in the floors complete with a rotted out hole in the passenger front. There is minor rot in the passenger side rain gutter but the rest of it appears intact and there is some rot in the edge of the rear wheel well lip on the passenger side (see pic). The tail gate appears to be in good shape as does the underside of the spare tire well. All the glass is intact but the drivers side window wouldn't roll up again after we rolled it down. The passenger front fender is the only other damage I can see as it took a hit at some point. The pictures provided should speak for themselves. I will include a link to a photobucket account so that all pics can be seen that I have taken. Please note that the wheels on the car do NOT come with the car. They are the original rims to my 1966 Caprice wagon that I used as rollers to get the car home as it's tires were rotten. The original 1959 rims will have decent roller tires mounted on them before the car leaves my yard. These wagons are hard to come by in any condition and any trim level. This car sports the unique color scheme of Classic Cream which is a bright greenish tinged yellow that kinda looks like the snot you hack up if you've ever had a bad case of pneumonia. Disgusting as it sounds it really is a cool and different color. Variations of this color were offered from 1956 to 1960. In 1956, it could be ordered two tone with Onyx Black which really made it stand out. In 1959, the only two tone option was Aspen Green as the secondary color which was Chevy's medium shade green offered that year. Green was the only interior choice with this color. This car may have been repainted white at some point because the original color is really bleached out if it wasn't repainted. But you can see areas on the front of the car and in the door jams where the Classic Cream color stands out. In any case, green has made a comeback on newer cars this century so I say that before you barf at the idea of driving this car around in it's original color scheme, you should consider that it would be really different sitting there amongst all those RESTORATION RED heaps that people tend to drive to car shows because, for some odd reason, they think that's the only color to paint a car. Here's the pics that I shot last week, just click on the link: http://s916.photobucket.com/albums/ad7/sacto59r/1959%20Brookwood/ Car is being sold AS IS WHERE IS. Please be prepared to have the car hauled away at your expense. If you are not sure of what it would cost to relocate the car to you and you have no way of towing it locally, I suggest you try www.123movers.com and request quotes for a NON-RUNNING car. Yes there is a difference in the price so be certain before you bid. New owner will be given a BILL OF SALE for the vehicle which has been out of DMV records for decades. Please feel free to ask questions. A 500.00 deposit is due within 48 hours of end of auction. Balance is to be paid within 7 days of end of auction. Thanks for looking!
