Vehicle Detail

This nice old bike is up for grab. I have moved out of the country and left the bike with my friend who can give the keys and papers to you or whoever you send to pick up the bike. I need to sell it so I am putting it up for a no reserve auction. I have used it for about 2,5 years. No big issues at all. When I checked it out for the first time (also Ebay auction) I saw a few drops of oil on the ground so I was a little hesitant. Then I talked to the previous owner who was telling me that, all of his family (himself, wife, kid) learned riding bike on this one. They loved the bike but they all wanted bigger ones. Finally they all ended up buying 1000cc+ machines. He told me that they never really had any issue with the bike. I asked him about the oil drops and he said he would need to replace a gasket. During our conversation I felt that the guy was straight forward and was not hiding anything from me. Then he really changed the gasket and I haven't seen a single drop of oil since (OK, the only time I saw oil drops was when I changed the oil - don't tell the EPA). In all the rest of his story he was also right. I have never experienced anything bad (major issue) with the bike. I think there were two times when it didn't start, but one of them was my fault (switched off the run button) and the other was right after a downpour when something got wet. 5 minutes later it started fine. I think I have driven the bike for about 4-5000 miles. I did at least 3 oil changes, I changed the air filter, fixed non working lights, etc. So just usual maintenance, nothing major. But I made sure I did the maintenance tasks by the recommendations. I did not plan to sell this bike until I found out that I was leaving the country. Since I wanted to keep it, I wanted to make sure it stays fit for a long time. One thing that could be fixed but I never found the justification for it is the thermostat. The bike runs well in the summer, but it has a hard time reaching operating temperature in the winter. The way I solved it, instead of replacing the thermostat, was to stick a cardboard in front of the cooler grille for the winter. Last fall I left the country for a few months and I parked the bike at my friend's place. In the spring when I picked it up, the battery was dead. So I went and bought a brand new gel battery so it would require less maintenance. (At this time I still thought I would be keeping the bike but using it much less frequently so I picked the better quality of battery). I also did another oil change in the spring so the oil currently has less than 200 miles in it. Some things I was planning to do this spring was to check the ignition timing and the carburetor settings. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to do it. If I was the buyer I would do those two things before I really start riding. I would also like to describe the tires a little more. Based on your standards they are either ready for replacement or they can still run a few hundred miles. To be honest I have always been on the 'it can still run some more' side. I grew up in a country where tries were used until they blew. In the US standards I know it is different so I want you to know about it. I have checked the price for two new tires and I got a $180 quote. Since it is a bike and people don't really like to take out the rear wheel, you might need to get a mechanic to replace them for you which could probably cost another $100. I am trying to tell about this motorcycle as much as I can, and I am pretty sure I am forgetting many things. Please feel free to ask questions. I will try my best to answer them. Happy bidding in the mean time. If you are looking for a race bike, this is not for you. If you are looking for something to commute to work, keep up with highway traffic, cost less than a new scooter, fill up the tank with little money, and have reliable transportation, this could be a great pick for you. (as it was for me) One thing I almost forgot: last time I have seen the bike, the windshield was popped off by some strong wind while it was parked. I tried to put it back and I couldn't get it up. So to make sure I don't lie, I would say that it could be completely broken off. However there is a small chance it is not completely broken and you can fix it. I can definitely tell that it is more comfortable to ride this bike with the windshield than without it. Now happy bidding!
