Vehicle Detail

Up for auction today is a one of a kind 1946 Ford Moving Van. This truck was bought brand new by a friend of mine in April of 1946. It was originaly a 1.5 ton but was lengthened by 6 feet in 1955 to accomodat more furniture. I am selling it to put the money into another truck of mine. This truck was featured in the May/June issue of Wheels of Time Magazine, the magazine of the Antique Truck Historical Society as well as our local newspaper.Altogether the truck has 148,000 miles on it but only has 2000 since total rebuild. The truck is 99 percent mechanicaly restored, however it is not completely restored cosmeticly. Here is what I've done to it: Rebuilt the engine with .020 crank, .030 over pistons, adjustable valve lifters, rebuilt carburator, new fuel pump and voltage regulator, rebuilt generator, starter, distributor, new ignition coil, timing gears, valves, valve guides and springs, new fuel pump push rod and bushing, new motor mounts. One new water pump and the other one is rebuilt. New oil pressure and temp senders, new fuel level tank unit. The engine is a 8BA made in 1949 so it has the distributor on top instead of on the timing cover. The truck has new king pins, tie rod ends, new front wheel cylinders, rebuilt rear wheel cylinders, new brake lines throughout (including flex lines), professionaly rebuilt hydrovac brake booster, rebuilt master cylinder with Silicon brake fluid. New wiring harness with cloth covered wire in the original styled loom, new brake light switch and new original style brake/tail lights, new parking lights, new grease seals in the front hubs and the 2 speed Eaton rear axle. New clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot bearing and new flywheel. New windshield and gasket, the rear and side windows are original. New floormat, glove box liner and starter soleniod. New exhaust pipes and muffler (factory replacement). I replaced the plywood in the overhead and rust proofed the frame work supporting the plywood (the overhang above cab). The radiator was recored with a 4 core radiator with a reinforcement baffle in the upper tank. New radiator hoses. The tires are almost new (2000) miles as are the inner tubes and liners. Everything electrical on the truck works except the high beam indicator, clearance lights and interior bed lighting. The interior lighting is installed but needs to be wired. Here is what the truck needs: There is cancer on the floor boards so it needs floor pans welded in as well as reinforcements by the door sills, the back corners of the bed need to be redone (see pics), the steering box needs to be rebuilt (there is a flat spot about half way thru the turning range). The front seat is ok but could use recovering. The headliner sags when it gets damp out and is torn and needs to be replaced. The frame needs to be sandblasted and rustproofed and the whole truck needs to be painted by someone who knows what they are doing (not me!). The clearance lights need to be repaired and wired up. The fan belt on the engine should have one size smaller installed because the current one is at the end of its adjustment. The generator/water pump belt is almost new and is the correct size. There are various dents and dings on the forward part of the bed that need to be repaired and the floor in back is solid but needs new masonite installed. The rear doors need rebuilding. I have the partial flow oil filter for it but it is not installed so I change the engine oil every 1000 miles. I wanted to leave the truck as original as possible because of its local history here in Kitsap county so I left the original signage on the truck alone. I have driven this truck in parades and truck shows for the last two years. I've driven it in three different counties, up town, down town in heavy traffic and have never had a problem with it. If you live as far away as Florida I would trust this truck to get me there (I live in Washington State) however it only goes 45 mph so it would be a long trip on the interstate. All of the tires on the truck are nylon cord bias ply. If I were to keep the truck I would go with radials on the front because it crow hops for the first 5 miles until the tires get warm. Several extras come with the truck such as a spare engine block and crank, spare heads, intake manifold, a rebuildable fuel pump and various iteams too numerous to list. It even has a few pairs of coverals that were worn by the driver when the truck was in service. Truck is available for local pickup only. Cost and arranging transportation to your home is strictly the responsibility of the purchaser. If you are hauling the truck, bear in mind that it is 27 feet long and 11 feet high and weighs 6800lbs. I would recommend either driving it or towing it. I would not trailer it due to it's height (ie., low hanging bridges). A $1000 deposit thru paypal is due within 48 hours after the close of the auction. The remainder is due within 7 days preferably thru paypal. If paying by check, the check must clear my bank before truck is moved and title is signed over.If are new to ebay and don't have a satisfactory reputation score, please don't bother bidding. I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END THE AUCTION EARLY BECAUSE THE TRUCK IS FOR SALE LOCALY Happy bidding! If you would like to see videos of this truck, go to you tube and type my name: Jeff Dornin, into the search window.
