Vehicle Detail

This was listed the first of the month. I pulled the listing because the truck smoked alot when started. This is because I changed the fuel filter and air got in the lines and they needed to be purged in order to stop the smoking. This has been done. FORGET WHAT EBAY SAYS,,, IT IS A DIESEL AND THE MILAGE IS 115,800. Yep, it is a 1982 which was the first year GM started using the 6.2 diesel in their pickups. This one is kind of special because it was one of the few ½ ton two wheel drives with a standard transmission with overdrive. That’s right, an overdrive with a 3.08 differential. The thing about this tyranny though is that it is a New Process A833 which uses ATF as a lubricant and not the 90W oil like most every other standard transmission uses. The truck gets great fuel mileage. Little back ground on this truck. It was bought new out in LA, CA where it was owned by someone in construction, I think an electrician. The guy I am sure enjoyed it until he got it serviced and the service people put 90W oil in the transmission which caused the synchronizers to stop lining up making it very hard to shift. When I bought it in 07 it had not been driven for a long time and only had 89K miles on it. There was a bunch of service receipts behind the seat the last dated in ’92. Many complaining about the hard shifting. I think the guy died in the late 90s because I bought it from a man who had bought the owners estate and was selling everything. It had set in the hot California sun so many summers that nearly everything plastic was destroyed and the headliner was like soot hanging down all around the edges. I drove if from California to Michigan and got 26, 27 MPG. I had an accident in Oklahoma and dented the left front fender and bent the frame. In Michigan the fender was replaced and the frame straightened. Then the whole truck was painted. There are dimples in the body as you may see in the photos but nothing major. If the reader knows what the Chevy ’82 grill looks like you know it isn’t right here. The grill is from a ’86 Chevy but the turn signals and park lights are from the ’88 GMC ty-raped inside the grill in the lower corners. This is why there are four headlights. There is no deep and damaging rust just some surface areas that are easy to fix. The tires that were on it were 31 X 10.5 x 15s which would give it better mileage but would put a strain on the transmission. I installed 235 x 75 x 15s which dropped the mileage to around 23 but improved the towing. The radio cassette player works but there are no rear cab speakers just the wires. The engine now in it is not the original. Although the engine now installed is also a ’82 it has been rebuilt by Mr. Goodwrench and has more power because it is from a1 ton truck with out the California anti-smog parts giving it about 10 more horses. The clutch chatters when first starting out in first or reverse. I removed all the plastic parts in the cab and replace them with parts form a ’88 Suburban. The radio works but not the best. The tires have about 10-20 more thousand miles left on them. I completely rebuilt the rear brakes including the shoes, drums and cylinders last year but the fronts will need attention soon as I began hearing the scraping sound the last time I drove it about three weeks ago. I stopped driving it because I bought another Suburban and am using the plates of this truck. The topper goes with the truck. The glass is all solid, no cracks but a few stone chips in the windshield. The dash is cracked. The batteries will need replacing and the new owner should buy them to have the warentee in their name. The drivers door hinges need new pins and bushings. There are (2) 20 gal. fuel tanks and they as well as the fuel gage change in good working order. The buyer can come get the truck or hire someone or use Uship. I have used Uship a lot to move things for myself as well as for others. Ask questions and I will add anything about the truck I happen to think of as the auction goes. Buyer will need to send $200 to my PayPal account at the end of the auction with the balance due upon pickup. Thanks, Steve
