Vehicle Detail
Welcome to my auction! Up for sale is my 1983 Volvo 245 Turbo “S” Wagon. This is a very special car with a lot of history in the Volvo world surrounding it. This car was the 5th Volvo project car for the Volvo aftermarket parts company IPD. It has been featured in numerous articles and magazines such as “Car & Driver” and “Road and Track. It was built to showcase all the state of the art performance items and accessories that IPD had to offer the Volvo community in 1983. I have been an avid Volvo owner since 1988 when fresh out of high school I bought my first car which was a 1967 Volvo 122. I fell in love and the rest was history so to speak. I have owned nothing but Volvos my entire life. I picked this car up from a gentleman who had it garaged for the last 9 years, I have had it for about a year and it has been my daily driver. When I bought the car I replaced the in tank pre-pump, gave her a new main fuel pump, a new fuel accumulator, new fuel filter, new plugs, cap, rotor and a tank of fresh gas and a new battery. She started right up on the first try and has run fantastic ever since. Since then I have only had one other issue with the car, I have had to change the clutch out. I replaced the entire clutch, overdrive wiring and awitches for about $900, about three months ago, of which I have all the receipts. I also replaced the rear main seal while we were in there as well as a valve cover gasket that had started to leak. Not only do I have MY work receipts, but I have a folder full of ALL the receipts for work done from the last two owners, the original owner still works for IPD and may still have some of his documentation. All work done was done by my excellent local Volvo mechanics. On a scale of one to ten in terms of condition the interior of this car ranks a 9+. The inside of this car is looking so good you will not believe it is nearly 30 years old! Seats are excellent, carpet is stellar! The headliner is perfect and clean. The exterior is still very straight except for a few small dings here and there and the occasional nick. It cleans up very nice. No rust holes or rust problems yet, Except that there is some deterioration on the drivers side spare wheel well that has been fixed with a fibreglass patch. I would give the outside an 8+. The motor runs strong and is totally tight. It starts right up and when the turbo kicks in it pulls like a mother! The engine bay is not pristine due to a couple of fixed oil leaks. Right now there is no oil leaking on the ground after parking! So I would give the performance a 9+ and the looks of the bay a 6 for being dirty. I just keep the hood down at car shows! lol! Also, the black stripe that runs the length of the car under the windows is peeling crackling in a few places and does not look like new. and the paint on the rear bumper is faded and discolored in a few places from the exhaust. I don't have room to post all these pictures as ebay only gave me room for 24. If you need specific pictures just email me and I'll do my best! All electrical works fine with the exception of a couple of passenger side electric window switches that are touch and go, some days they work, some days they don’t. The suspension is great with IPD sways, lowering springs, strut braces, and heavy duty billsteins all around. This car also sits lower that most lowered Volvos, it has about a 2 ½ in drop! The front mud flaps almost touch the ground! When IPD built the car also professionally “Rolled” the rear fender wells so if you want you can fit a very large rear tire. I am currently running 205-45-15 BF Goodrich G-Force Sport tires with almost new tread. The tires are new also and are BF Goodrich G-Force Sport tires with only about 3 to 4 months on them. I have all the original manuals, I also have the Tri-Fold IPD “S” Wagon brochure made by IPD to promote the car, along with numerous IPD catalogs from the years of the cars build(1983-84) that feature the car on the cover and inside, and I have copies of some of the articles about the car from Road and Track magazine. I even have the original IPD build sheet detailing all the items and their cost when the Project car was being put together! Here is a list of some of the stuff promoted on the car; the build sheet alone taps out at almost $10,000! Suspension · IPD Sway bars front and rear (25mm) · IPD factory style Upper strut chassis braces · IPD “Street Coils” front and rear(This car is so low the front mud flaps almost touch the ground!) · Bilstein Heavy duty shocks front and rear Wheels · Oscam 15X7 genuine 3 piece turbo wheels Exterior · European ECE headlamps (genuine VOLVO oem by Cibie) · Customer two tone paint with custom pinstriping and detailing Exhaust · 2 ½ inc exhaust pipe (turbo back) · I put on a new muffler Engine · Omni intercooler kit · IPD water injection · Flex-A-Lite heavy duty fan · Arkay enrichening device Custom mounted oil filter (mounted up by the radiator) Drivetrain · Limited slip differential · Sound deadener package Sound system · New Sony CD deck replaces the original Alpine cassette deck (not currently connected to the items below) · 8in. I am now the proud owner of a 1995 Yellow 850 T5-R. This means that I will not really be driving the wagon much anymore, and when I found the 245 she had just been sitting in a garage for years. I want her to go to someone who will appreciate her and drive her and continue to give her the attention she deserves, and not just sit as a prize in my driveway. Plus I could use the money! I may have missed some things in my listing so please if you have any questions or need pictures of anything special just let me know. I am trying to represent this car to the best of my abilities. It has been a flawless daily driver and even made the round trip from SLC to the IPD garage sale in Portland without issues. Also...The vehicle report ebay provides is not accurate! The 120mph speedo was added right after the car was purchased new by IPD, and I have verification of this, so please be confident that the milage is the actual mileage! I also have in my possesion a free and clear title which I will sign over at purchase or pickup. For those of you who know your Volvos and love them with the passion I have you know you will truly never see another Volvo like this ever. This is truly a one of a kind Volvo and a piece of Volvo and IPD history! Thanks for looking and good luck!
