Vehicle Detail
Alright, here I have a 99 Ford Taurus with the Duratec motor. It is dark blue, in fair shape. It has been dented slightly in the pass front fender and drivers rear quarter. It is slightly dinged all around as most 12 year old cars are. I got this car for my dad about 10 years ago and he drove it until november of 09. I drove it back when I brought him a new car & went to work on it. I put new brakes on it, replaced some steel brake lines, an alternator a drive belt, a battery, some other various minor repairs and cleaned it up pretty well. It is due for a VA safety & emissions inspection this month which I will have completed with sufficient bids this week. All in all, it is a decent car. Its not pretty but it goes. BUT BEWARE there are two issues I am aware of with the car. One is relatively minor. First, the car will throw a check engine light on a long hot highway drive (300 miles) for a transmission code, specifically for torque converter lockup slippage. The transmission appears to function just fine and the check engine light hasn't come on in a few years but it has recurred a couple times prior to that. The second issue may or may not be a much bigger issue. I have not been able to replicate the issue in about 4 weeks but the car will die at idle and not restart for about an hour after a relatively lengthy drive (25 miles or so). I have put almost 1500 miles on the car since early February and this has only happened to me once. It does not throw a code. I think that the car might be losing oil pressure when hot and loosing the lifters. But...I might be wrong. I don't know these cars really well. I have not replicated the problem or had an opportunity to put a manual gauge on the motor. So it might be a simple fix. Or...it might need engine work. The interior is pretty clean, no real rips or tears in the upholstry. The steering wheel wrap is worn through in two spots & the console cover is missing though. Car is sold as-is where-is. Pickup is required within 7 days of winning bid & a $150 deposit is required. Car can be seen by contacting me. If you have any questions with regard to the car or its condition I advise you to look at it in person. If you have questions or would like to see the car please contact me. I will try to answer any questions I can. This is a no reserve auction.
