Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is this very fine 1978 Lincoln Continental...perfect for a Sunday drive! I'm selling this treasured vehicle as I prepare for a cross country move from Virginia to Oregon, so my loss is your gain! From a bygone era when things were built to last comes this classic automobile, arguably one of the finest cars ever made in America! This road king is as much a piece of American art and history as it is a vehicle; this car was the king of the road in the late seventies, and it is still the king of the road when driven around nowadays! This car is sold as-is, and it should provide the next owner with at least as much joyful, stylish transport as it has provided me over the last seven years. All she needs is a little TLC over time, and she'll repay you with her timeless elegance and stylish comfort! The lines on this car are amazing...it's a true eye-catcher! Bench seats mean you can get the whole gang there in comfort and style! This particular Lincoln Continental has been well maintained, garaged most of its life, and very seldom driven by its elderly primary owner. Hence, the body is in fantastic condition for a 33-year old classic automobile. Also, the car has very low mileage: only 67K original miles, with the title to prove it! I bought this car as a collectible in 2004, when it had only 56K original actual miles on Virginia title; I've driven it a total of only 11K miles since then. As you can hopefully tell from the photos, this car is in great shape for its age. The body is rust-free, and I had it repainted to the current lemon yellow color; this car was originally metallic baby blue. The pictures do not do justice to the nice glossy finish on the car...you will truly appreciate this wonderful, attractive machine! This car runs great, and it rides even better! The cloth interior is all original and is in good shape. The bench seats are plush and comfortable, and this car absolutely rides like a dream...it's like floating down the road on a big puffy cloud! The tires are whitewalls and have plenty of tread remaining--she's ready for a road trip! This car has all the latest features for 1978: power steering, power windows, power brakes, power seat, heated mirrors, power antenna, power trunk hatch, lighted keyholes on the front doors, power headlight covers, tilt steering wheel. The engine is a whopping 460 cubic inch V-8 with plenty of power. In addition to repainting this car, I've kept up on all the routine maintenance. Most recently, I had the water pump and all the radiator hoses replaced, including a flush of the coolant system. The belts are also like new and are in great shape. This car has a new Virginia safety inspection sticker, valid through March 2012. This Lincoln is a very fine automobile, and someone it going to get this wonderful car at a great price!!! Some of the original optional features no longer work properly, which you might expect from a thirty-something year old classic car. The power door locks don't work, but the doors still lock manually, so that's not a problem. The cruise control is not currently operational, but I'm told it's a relatively easy fix if that is important to you. The windshield washing pump doesn't work, but is replaceable if you'd like to fix it. A/c doesn't work either; the air conditioner compressor will need replacing if you'd like to fix the a/c. (I'm a fan of the 4-55 air conditioner: roll down 4 windows and drive 55 miles per hour!) I am pointing out the following issues in the name of full disclosure, but these are superficial flaws which really do not detract from the overall appeal of this fine auto: 1. While the paint job is still holding up very well, there are a few small nicks in the paint along the driver's door, most likely caused by pebbles flying up from other cars, and noticeable only upon a very close inspection. 2. There is a small patch of carpet ripped from the driver's side front floorboard, as pictured. The new owner might decide to replace all the carpet, or perhaps to replace the small patch, or just leave it be as I have done. (Only the driver notices this ripped carpet section; of course, you'd probably want to fix it if you plan on restoring this car to show-winning quality.) 3. There are a couple of small grease stains on the middle armrest area of the front seat which I have never attempted to remove, also pictured. These small dime-sized spots may likely be removed by a grease-releasing carpet or upholstery cleaner. This classic car, nicknamed the "banana boat," needs a new home! If you are the lucky new owner, you will have fun with this great automobile! You will not be disappointed! HAPPY BIDDING!!!
