Vehicle Detail
For sale is a meticulously maintained 1988 Honda GL1500 Goldwing. This bike has almost too many options and extras to list, but I’m going to try anyway! They are listed in no particular order: · Tires: Dunlop E3 (Rear: 3000 miles; Front: 2500 miles) · Brakes (Front: NEW! Rear: 3000 miles and new caliper at the same time) · Reverse! · On-board air compressor · Progressive shocks and springs · Driver floorboards with heel/toe shift · Driver highway boards · Passenger floorboards · ISO grips · Electronic cruise control · Tulsa tall/tinted windshield with vent · Tulsa belly pan · CB with passenger push-to-talk and volume control · AM/FM/Cassette radio · Intercom · Road Sofa seat with gel inserts and driver’s backrest · Passenger armrests · Trunk luggage rack · Receiver hitch (ball not included) · Isolated trailer wiring · 4 air horns (yes; they’re LOUD!) · Headlight modulator · Brake light modulator · Trunk/saddlebag reflectors changed to lights · Driving lights · Cornering lights · Chrome front rotor covers with ring-of-fire · Custom paint/pinstriping · Baker Air Wings · Trunk organizers · Accessory plug for battery maintainer · AGM battery · Digital voltmeter · Evans coolant (NO maintenance!) · Chrome accents: o Windshield garnish o Dash trim o Fuel door trim o Radio trim o Vent louvers o Radio knobs o Radiator grille trim (front and sides) o Clutch/Brake levers o Switch boxes o Trunk lid handle o Saddlebag scuff plates · Clymer service manual included! I have owned this bike for 8 years and 74K miles, and the only reason I’m selling it is that I succumbed to the urge to buy a GL1800. Some may consider 135K miles to be a lot, and it is, until you understand that there are literally hundreds of Goldwings with 250 – 300K miles on them (or more) and they are still going strong. This one is no different. It still runs as well as the day I bought it. I average around 40 mpg commuting to work, and I’ve gotten as high as 54 mpg with it. People tell me all the time that it looks to be half its age. It does have some dings and scratches as you might expect, but all are minor, and none of them take away from the appearance of the bike. The most noticeable is the slight “wrinkling” of a bit of the dash plastic (see photo). (This is from parking it facing away from the sun, and the Tulsa windshield focused the sun’s rays on the dash and deformed the plastic. This is a known issue with bikes fitted with Tulsa windshields. Now that I know about it, I avoid it by parking so it faces the sun. ) Now, because my reputation is important to me, and in the interest of full disclosure, there are a few other things that a prospective buyer would want to know. There are a couple segments of LEDs on the ring of fire that do not work. The driving lights quit working late last year, but I never got time to look into it. Lastly, there is a slight oil leak, I think from the left side valve cover gasket. It is VERY minor. I have never had to add oil throughout the riding season. It has had a fresh oil change, using Shell Rotella T synthetic (the only oil I run). Within the last 5 years, in addition to tires and brakes, I have replaced the thermostat, the timing belts, the battery, fork seals, alternator brushes, and all hydraulic fluid. This is most assuredly NOT a project bike. On a scale of 1 – 10, with 1 being a project bike and 10 being a show-bike, I would rate this bike an 8. This bike continues to turn heads wherever it goes, and is absolutely ready to ride anywhere in the country. It has been very reliable, as one would expect from the legendary Goldwing. There are many more years of great riding waiting for the new owner to enjoy!
