1200 Packard 1701A Henney Hearses were produced in 1939. This one was last titled in 1967 as a five door sedan. I did not take a close up picture of the odometer because I have no idea if it would be correct.
The Packard Hearse made by Henney was considered to be an elegant automobile with distinctive flowing lines and a sales leader in it's day.
While researching the Internet for more specifics on this model of Packard I did discover a few restored ones. I even came across a 1939 fully restored Packard Henney offered for sale. It's appraised value was over 80K.
The last gentleman that owned this car started the restoration on the body, however, his age and health caused the project to become stalled.
When I acquired the car I was told the engine had been overhauled, but that was many years ago. This car has been stored outside in the dry Arizona desert with the hood closed, but, the carburator has been missing. Therefore, one should expect to disassemble the engine and replace parts as needed.
Although there is a great deal of surface rust, I did not notice any rusted out spots on the car when I took the pictures of this car two weeks ago.
This Packard 1701 series featured an L head 8 cylinder engine with a three speed manual transmission. New for 1939 was the shift lever placed on the column.
This project car would make a fantastic touring resto-rod. One you could be proud to take to any Good Guys event far away from home and win not only best of show, but, long distance award too.
