Autobahn Auto in Hampton, VA, presents for auction this 1996 Mercedes Benz, S320 with a long wheel base. For those who don't know, the long wheel base Mercedes S-class is roughly 6 inches longer than its short wheel base version. In other words our S-320 here, is just as long as a S600. The car is not perfect and needs some work, but, she is fully drivable and can be driven on a daily bases. The car was a trade in from one of our regular customers, we have service and repair records going back many years. Most of the regular issues with these models were already taken care of, among that is a new head-gasket in the last 2 years. Just last week we replaced the water-pump, a new set of spark plugs and connectors. The car is VERY clean and the body very straight except a crack in the front lower bumper and some damage to the drivers door from a run in with our gate. Please look at the photos and if you have questions, just ask. The main problem with our S-320 is the over-drive of the transmission, she does NOT shift into overdrive. We already checked the switch in the shifter console, where the driver can shift side-ways from 4 to D. The switch works fine. The problem could be a external solenoid, a relay, or an internal transmission problem. Our challenge is that we are a very busy Mercedes Benz shop, with not enough staff and technicians on hand to be going through every single trade-in car for diagnostics and repair. We just don't have the man power. Further, if I kept a technician on every trade-in vehicle we receive just to diagnose and repair them, I'll end up spending more money than what each car might be worth. The backseat appears as if nobody ever sat in it. All windows work flawlessly and the same goes for the pneumatic door-closing assistance and the power-door-lock system. I mentioned these because they are costly and often not working. Our S320 has newer wheels from a 2001 S430. The tires are decent, with 50% treat left on them. The engine, as I stated is dry --not leaking oil or water, the head gasket, which is a common problem, was replaced in the last two years. The inside rear view mirror is a little lose at its base. Power seats, radio and climate control and sunroof work as they should. To address the overdrive one more time, cause I know some of you may wonder, I drove the S-class for 40 miles on the Interstate, cruising along with traffic. The RPM indicator shows around 2800 to 3000 RPM's. If the overdrive was working it would roughly be at 2200. Worst case scenario would be a problem internally with the transmission. It could very well just be a control relay, or the external solenoid. We did not go into the diagnostics of those. Please check our eBay feedback, we have NOT ONCE received a negative feedback. I don't lie, or add any sugar to my descriptions and my customers know me as very honest. Most of our auctions end early with a buyer submitting an offer. The S class is being sold without warranty AS IS, WHERE IS. Shipping or pick up are responsibility of the winning bidder. Don't ask for the reserve I won't reveal it because I always lower the reserve to match the high bids. Some people ask for the reserve on the same day I listed the car, sorry but unless the auction is about to end, I won't tell. On the other hand, we will not refuse a reasonable offer at any time during the listing.
