Vehicle Detail
Hello and welcome - the item that you are currently viewing is 1 1966 VW Kombi Transporter Type I Bus. This belongs to my father and he is ready to move onto another project. This one has been conquered he is also retiring and looking to spend time with grand kids and not turning wrenches. This bus began its life in Arizona and has been in Oklahoma the last 10 years or so. You will be hard pressed to find a less rust free bus as far as the under carriage and chassis is concerned. This bus runs and drives great and always starts from the seat! This bus has been very reliable and lots of thought has gone into its restoration for safety and reliability. The bus corners good with the sway bar set up and is not as challenged by wind as other buses usually are. This bus has not been on any long road trips to any far away places, but has been up and down the highway frequently without any issues or overheating problems. This bus is not a show winner or a trailer queen, but a great weekend driver that turns heads and receives compliments at all times. My dad has often been stopped by young women who like the bus - but he is happily married... If you are looking for something fun to drive and wish to continue its restoration this is the one for you - it is the perfect foundation if you wish to make one perfect - it IS NOT a concourse show winner - nor is it a rusty heap. IT IS A GREAT WEEKEND DRIVER!!! He has all receipts since he purchased in 2005 - total of about $14,000 - I have listed lots of pictures - please feel free to ask any and all questions. I will be happy to assist in helping you acquire this bus - we are in Oklahoma City Oklahoma - I can meet at the airport - I can assist in a transport company - or I can help meet and or deliver within a reasonable distance for a small fee considering my gas and time. I am easy to work with in that regard. This will be your new bus if you purchase - no time wasters please. A paypal deposit of $500 is due within 24 hours of purchase and full payment arrangements will be made when bus is picked up. Cash or Cashiers Check - no payments or any other money shinagens... There is no warranty implied or given. This is a buy it now or best offer listing - we are open to offers but are not giving it away either. Thank you for stopping by - good luck and Godspeed with your mouse clicks! the good 1 - major rust issues fixed by previous owner sheet metal replaced. good rockers, dog legs, floors good, no body rust throughs. 2 - por 15 floors and inside doors also behind nose. 3 - new paint about 3 yrs ago 4 - rebuilt front end, king pins, tie rod ends, new shocks, front and back, steering damper. new larger sway bar. camber compensater rear, brakes not rebuilt but work ok. 4 new tires. front end alignment, no shimmy. tracks good! 5 - new seat covers rear seat, new interior panels, 1/4 closed cell foam insulation, on floors and under interior panels new gasket kit on overhead vent, new seat belts in back, shoulder belts in front, new carpet, most weather strip in good shape. original glass with exception of one windshield. 6 - also have a middle seat, a spare door, few spare odds and ends, 7 - new clutch cable. 8 - rebuilt 1904 engine, about 1500 miles ago. new 90.5 jugs, new case, new stroker crank, new oil cooler, new fan shroud, heads rebuilt with special valve job to run cool, remote oil cooler with fan run under bus. remote oil filter, dual kadrons, new bus cam plenty of bottom end power, this engine was rebuilt by a long time vw engine rebuilder in okc this engine also has a alternator and the bus has had the wiring harness replaced. this engine doesn't have any fancy dress up stuff on it but runs real good. 9 - good clutch, freeway flyer transmission, does not jump out of gear, or grind. 10 reduction boxes ok previous owner said they had been rebuilt. 11 everything works lights. wipers, dome lights, etc.12 I also have a more thrifty progressive 2 barrel carburator to put on it for better fuel mileage than the dual kadrons, this includes new manifold and mounting pieces that connect to the head (have everything except the silicone boots) the bad 1 - rust bubble on pass rear fender should be easy fix easy to get to - there are some other tiny bubbles 2 - gas gauge works but doesn't go all the way too full so when it says empty has about 1/4 tank I dont trust it. it lies but I have not run out. 3 - trans leaks a little. axle boots I think. they said that the front seal was ok when they rebuilt the engine. it doesn't leak to much so I havent looked for it 4 - exhaust system not very pretty but works. 5 - I had wrapped heat exchanger on driver side with header wrap for more heat but ran out of material for pass side6 - use pencil and paper for gas gauge / more reliable 7 - battery probably needs to be replaced soon8 - some knuckle head cut the dash to install an aftermarket Sony CD player - it works but has a goofy volume knob at times. you can change it out or possibly use a new cover plate to cover the hole?
