Hello and welcome to another Houseofhotrod auction! Today I am listing a 1966 Ford T-5 Convertible - what - it's not a Mustang? Well - it is, and it isn't... more about that later. This isn't any old 1966 Convertible, it's a loaded up V8 powered rust free Ford that runs and drives like a car that's been loved it's entire life. You know the type - and you can tell when you drive them. Solid, tight, and just a joy to drive. The owner of the car does not want to sell it, but at this time he must. I have spent some time around it, and I gotta tell you, I really enjoy this car, and would love to own it! This is a wonderful super solid runner and driver that will absolutely be a blast to own. I will do my best to describe it so that you feel you know it, and to point out any and all problems (none that I can find on this car!). It's hard to show the total story of this car in the words I use and only 24 pictures, plus another 100 or so I squeaked in, but again - I will do my best, I tried to use pictures that covered the overall feel and look of the car. I use lower resolution so that anyone in the world can download them with relative ease. The pictures are taken at McMinnville Oregon's Evergreen Aviation Museum - home of the one and only Spruce Goose. They are very nice folks that let me snap my pictures there at the museum. The plane behind the car is a 1944 Douglas C47A Skytrain. Not just any C47 Skytrain - it's one that flew troops that parachuted into Normandy on D-day, as well as flying various missions before and after that day in history. If you're ever in town, stop by and see this awesome pair of museums - there is an Air and Space Museum there, as well as an Imax theater. Please be aware that this car is advertised and for sale locally, nationally and globally, and we do reserve the right to end this auction at any time if the vehicle sells before auction ends. This car is definitely for sale and definitely on the money price wise. If you are SERIOUS about this car - please call my cell # 503.580.6225 If I don't answer the first time - try again later - if I am at work I may not be able to answer your call. Please be considerate of the time. We have little ones that need to get their sleep. Someone's gonna get an awesome and extremely rare classic T-5 (Mustang) Convertible in their garage! This is a unique opportunity to own a car to enjoy, to show, to drive - and most of all have fun with. The value is here, the timing is right. You will never lose. Buy it today and be the envy of those who hesitated and lost. . Ahh - the one and only Ford Mustang first generation - I mean Ford T-5 - I mean Mustang..... this is so confusing!! It seems that when Ford built the Mustang for export they encountered a manufacturer in Germany that wanted $10,000 for the license to use the Mustang name - Ford has a practice of NOT paying licensing fees, so they quickly retooled a kit that dealers in Germany would install on the earliest cars, and by late 1965 Ford was building the cars this way for export. T-5 was the name that was chosen, as that was the original project name for the Mustang as Ford developed it. a T-5 has no Mustang script on it, as all references to Mustangf had to be deleted - a different horn center, wheel centers, white lenses for the parking lights, and are equipped with HiPro Package usually for autobahn type speeds. There apparently are no hard records for these first generation T-5's, but estimates are somewhere around 500 built in '65 and '66 - and the number for convertibles has to be very very low. I am certain to be schooled here on some aspects of the T5 that I am missing, so don't be too hard on me please - I do not claim to be an expert on them, and most of what I know about them I have recently learned from info I have looked up, or that is provided withthe car. Looking online it shows currently that there are about 19 Convertibles in the T5 registry, and fewer of each when you break down the model code i.e 76A. So how rare is the car? Could it be one of one? This particular car was featured in Mustang Illustrated magazine in 1993, and at that time was owned by George and Carolyn Gregg - they found the car in Texas, and while there to purchase a '66 Shelby GT 350, saw this while there, and fell in love, buying this car instead, and driving it back home to Canada! They had taken the car to many shows where it always swept it's class. A copy of the magazine article comes with the car, as well as all the items pictured copy of the registry etc - the magazine article even lists the vin number and has a great shot of the data plate. One thing is certain here - this isn't some kid's hot rod car. This is a beautiful car with much attention paid to detail and originality. This particular car has a DSO code of 95, and was produced in the Metuchen New Jersey plant November 8th of 1965. We don't know a lot of the history about this car before this time, so all I can tell you is what we do know. Tried several shots of the vin tag, but they are all fuzzy/blurry. The body Code is 76A, which denotes a convertible, or cabriolet in Germany. The color is T for Candy Apple Red. Trim is 25, red Date code is 08L. Top color is white. DSO as mentioned earlier is 95. Axle code is 1, the transmission code is 5. The engine is a 225 HP V8. The options on the car are Power top, Factory Air Conditioning, TInted Glass, Radio and Console, Magic Aire heater, Rally Pac, Special handling package, Styled Steel Wheels, and Cruise-O-Matic transmission. I have spent a bit of time driving this car and have to tell you it's a dandy - it runs and drives wonderfully. Let's go throught the car from front to back. The engine appears to be all stock, and one of the few things I can find that are not is the battery. The A/C belt was taken off - as the current owner really didn't care about having air in this climate, which is relatively cool. The compressor spins free, so isn't seized or locked up. The car has 4 BBL carb, dual exhausts, and stock exhaust manifolds - and has a very nice and throaty sound. There are no knocks or ticks in the engine, and it runs nicely with lots of power. The transmission shifts nicely as it should. There are no funky noises - or whines in the rear end. Tires are basically new - and are 205-75?R-15 in size all the way around. At one time the car had dual red stripe tires, but they were aged, and so replaced. You will notice the 3 wheel center caps in the picture - they come with, but the owner was afraid of them coming off - so has taken them off, rather than lose them, - these were a very specific part of the T5, and I am not sure that they are available in reproduction form. The car starts, runs and drives like it should - and actually nicer than I had expected. The car handles nicely, stops nicely - and straight, and steers well - a car you can buy today, and enjoy daily, drive it when you want, and have fun with. A very solid driver. Inside - the car is super clean - it appears to be very much original, and with the low low miles - it could be. There is an aftermarket Custom Autosound am/fm cassette in place of the stock radio, but you will note in the picture that the stock radio is included - there have been no additional holes cut to install this radio. Everything works, there is a little bit of crazing on the right side gauge of the Rally Pac - but everything, even the clock works. I can find no rips or tears in the interior, and there is a bit of a ding in the left hand door panel inside, which I am sure a paintless dent guy could easily repair. It's hard to notice, but there. All the glass is nice, as is the top. There are no breaks or cracks in the windshield. As far as I can tell - everything works. The trunk is nice, and also has a Styled Steel Wheel. The body on this car is super nice - very straight - and clean. It's not concours perfect - probably close - but as nice as you will find for a street driven car - smooth paint, next to no orange peel, and just nice. The body work must have been just awesome, as there are no signs of bubbling, or and corrosion - and no signs of collision repair that I could find or see. Chrome is in beautiful condition, as is the grille, lights, etc. One thing to keep in mind with this car is that it has not been detailed, just dusted off - it's been owned for approximately 11 years by the current owner, and this is exactly how the car has been kept. It's always garaged, and never kept outside - always maintained, always pampered always taken care of - and it shows in the quality of the car. This is the kind of car that once you find, you keep - because cars like this don't come along often. Remember it's not been detailed, or even waxed in years - this is how the car has been kept - not fluffed or buffed, no phoney rattle can details or undercoat - an amazingly honest condition car, that just is what it is, a nice solid great driving classic Ford T-5, I mean Mustang Convertible. Not rain driven. The car was built to drive, and enjoy, not for the floor of a car show, or museum. It's super nice, super rare, it's priced right, and is a wonderful driver - that will turn many heads, win trophies , and sweep it's class in local, regional, indoor or outdoor car shows - and possibly concours as well with a little detailing, and give the new owner years of pride of ownership, thousands of thumbs up, and an enjoyment that nothing but a classic car will bring you.
