Vehicle Detail

1952 FORD F-5 COE cab over engine 1.5 ton with spreader HISTORY:This truck started life as a Consolidated Freightways Delivery Truck. It has "CF" painted on the doors. It was then sold to a local Montana Farmer who put a spreader on the back. He loaned it to a neighbor who screwed with the distributor. Supposedly it ran great up to that point. The old man was near retirement and never got to fixing it. It sat there until I bought it from his son. It has been a few years and he was unable to find the title looking through his dad's old stuff. I am currently getting the state to issue a new title and will make sure it is properly transfered to the winning bidder. ENGINE:The engine is an H series 226 flathead six with an updraft carb. I have never tried to start it, but the motor is free and has compression. The key is in the ignition, but the wiring should be re-run. All parts are there (except a battery). Radiator has fluid and engine has oil. I wouldn't be surprised if it could fire right up with a little tinkering. When I got it I cleaned the spark plug holes, pulled the plugs, put some marvel mystery oil in each cylinder, and installed new plugs. TRANSMISSION:The tranny is the optional synchro 4-speed with a pto take-off. The clutch engages and disengages and feels normal. AXLES:BIG 5-lug. Duals on rear are Bud style. The brakes have the power assist with large vacuum canister. Currently, the brake pedal goes to the floor. I have not checked the brake fluid level. FRAME:The frame is not rusty, damaged, or cracked. It is a double frame in the center of the truck. It is sized for a 14 foot bed. The wheelbase is 158". It will fit on a 14' trailer with no bumper stop. 18' with bumper stop. Total length with spreader is 24'. SUSPENSION:This truck has the optional heavy-duty suspension. The springs look to be in good working condition and are not worn, twisted or broken. TIRES:The tires and wheels shown in the pictures ARE NOT PART OF THIS SALE. They are the super ultra-rare one-piece tubeless drop-center 22.5" rims with radial traction tires. These are impossible to find for the 5-lug axle. They have been blasted and powder coated. I am selling those separate. The wheels and tires included in the sale are the stock 20" rims. I will only put on the inner wheels in back so it is easier to load on a trailer. BODY:The COE (cab over engine) body is quite rare and sought after. Rodders love these. The body is very rust free considering it's age. Many of the common trouble spots are great on this truck. Doors and fenders and cab floors are rust free. The only thin spots are the cab corners, and those are very minor compared to most. The truck was originally bright green with ford tractor red fenders, frame, and wheels. This was a custom paint job for CF. The farmer added a nice thick black rattle can job. I started buffing the black off and found 2 or 3 coats of green. So there are 3-4 layers of paint, which explains the lack of rust. The passenger and drivers glass is broken. They roll up and down. Door latches work, although they could be adjusted. This truck has the Delux cab with locking doors. The door key is present. This is a real nice cab with a LOT of potential. I know it looks a bit crazy being half buffed off, but it is a LOT more solid than most others I have seen. INTERIOR:The cab interior is in great shape except the Seats need upholstered. The drivers seat has the heavy-duty floating suspension with a giant coil spring and shock absorber like on buses and big rigs. Gauges are intact. Ash tray. Optional heater. Dash chrome is present. Interior paint and floors are very nice. Engine cover in good shape with working flaps to check oil. SPREADER:It has an IH 570 spreader on the back. I am not sure if it can be brought back to life or not. Overall, this is a nice example of a really rare truck. I know some will only be looking at the body, while others will appreciate the truck as a whole. I was planning to put a flatbed dump on it but never got the time. Sold as is in non-running condition. Buyer responsible for transport/shipping. No refunds or warranty. On Mar-04-11 at 11:18:16 PST, seller added the following information:I added pictures of the tires and rims that will come with the truck, as well as a few other pictures over at photobucket. Here is the link: http://s491.photobucket.com/albums/rr280/Ruckus99/1952%20Ford%20COE/On Mar-09-11 at 06:56:48 PST, seller added the following information: After thoroughly checking into what it will take to CAREFULLY remove and palletize the cab, I have to revise my estimate to $250 for this service. These are held on by many bolts, not just a few like later cabs. This will GREATLY reduce shipping and storage costs. The cab on a pallet will be about 7'x7'x7.5' (LxWxH). The winning bidder can store the vehicle in the current location for a reasonable (several weeks) time while shipping is arranged. Thanks again for your interest.
