When first introduced at the 1965 Paris Auto Show, the Dino was a significant departure from the norm at Ferrari. Most significantly, it was the first Ferrari production car powered by a 6-cylinder positioned behind the seats. In 1969 the V6 was enlarged to 2,418cc and the power increased to 195hp in the V6-powered Dino..s ultimate evolution, the 246 GT and GTS. Production of these fantastic cars ended in 1974 - this example being one of the 1,274 Spider versions produced. While Ferraris have always been about free revving high performance engines, the Dino 246 GTs have quick, responsive handling that immediately separates them from earlier front-engined Ferraris, and marks the shift that led directly to the present generation of rear engine Ferrari road cars. Historically significant, the Dino was the only production car that combined the dynamic advantages of a mid-mounted engine without the angular wedge shape designs that would characterize Ferraris from the mid-70s well into the 90s. The 1974 Ferrari 246 Dino GTS offered here is truly a superb example. It's dressed in the always desirable Rosso Corsa and the interior has Black leather seats with red inserts (also on the door panels), power windows, air conditioning, Dino floormats, an Ansa exhaust, and a Blauplunkt stereo. A very rare option, this Dino is believed to have been originally delivered with Borrani wire wheels, including the spare in the front. The Pirelli P300 tires are all in great condition with plenty of tread remaining and the Borrani's are all straight and tight with no damage or loose spokes. This 246 GTS was recently fully serviced and is ready to be driven and enjoyed on the open road where the intoxicating exhaust music will force you to forget about any worries.
