Up for auction is my 1950 Chevy 3600 ¾ ton 5-window pick-up with 4 speed tranny and 216 6cyl. I located this three years ago in Minnesota on a Craigslist listing. The gentleman selling it had purchased it from the original owners where it had been used as a farm truck since new. He held on to it for a couple years and never got to it, so decided to sell it. I had it trucked to upstate New York, and have been working on it as time allowed. It is not currently a running truck, but I had it running for the first time last Fall before putting it away for the winter. I have not registered it in New York, and it still has the good Minnesota title (including 1976 Minnesota plates!). I have put a good deal of time (and money) into getting it road worthy, but have decided to sell it to help with college expenses for my son and daughter. It came with very poor tires, so the first thing I did was purchase 5 Firestone bias ply tires, with tubes and flaps from Coker tire. I had the original split rims bead blasted and powder coated in red (not original, but I liked the look), and also had a beige pin stripe added to them (professionally applied) to match the original stripe around the cab. I should say here that what is nice about this truck is the originality. It has been essentially a one owner truck, and everything is original. I went through the brakes, and had the backing plates powder coated, as well as the drums. I located one NOS drum, and all of them had enough metal to have them turned. Original shoes were relined with oversize linings to match the new drum size. New wheel cylinders, seals (rear), and stainless brake lines were added. A new master cylinder was installed. NOS emergency brake lines are installed but not hooked up. New king pins, oversize, were added to the front, along with rebuilding the tie rods. The gas tank was removed and treated to a Gas_Tank_Renu process, and reinstalled. New stainless lines go all the way to the rebuilt carb. The original water pump, generator, and starter were all rebuilt professionally. The original radiator was cleaned, repaired, and reinstalled. A new fuel pump, ignition wires, coil, plugs etc. were installed. All new gaskets were installed on the pan, timing cover (and new seal), valve cover and side plate. The engine was degreased, and painted with Bill Hirsh original paint. Many, Many parts were wire brushed cleaned and black oxide coated (I had access to this at work). The original front bumper was sent out and chromed, and the brackets powder coated. It is not installed yet, but is included along with many, many parts, (a good many are NOS). The exhaust is new with a new muffler. When I started it for the first time it ran rough, and was loud. It may be leaking through either the exhaust/inlet manifold, or the bolted flange between them. New gaskets were of course used. If this engine, which is original (per numbers), should not be usable I am including an original 216 I believe is a 1950, and it has supposedly been rebuilt. I purchased it for $900 from a guy who said it was. As far as rust, the floor boards need a patch panel installed. The cab corners are rusted. Everything else is solid, with surface rust only. The bed is original wood, and very solid. All glass is excellent with no damage. This is a project that is close to complete, and has most of the parts to finish it. It will need to be put on a trailer.
