Vehicle Detail

I received a tremendous amount of interest for this buick so I am relisting in auction format to give everyone a fair chance to win this car. This 1958 buick was my grandfather's car and I have been given the task of selling it. I only know what I have been told by my family so I will try to be as accurate as possible. The car is a 1958 buick century 2 door hardtop with 29,698 original miles (see pic). Everything on the car is original as far as I know. The car does not have a battery, so I have been unable to test whether it starts. I would guess that it would take a little bit of work to get it running though. The car last ran in 2000 and has been sitting ever since. The car has been garage kept its entire life, except for the past few months when it has been sitting with a car cover in my driveway. The body of the car is in great shape. There are no dents or rust, however there are some scratches that run down the drivers side (see pic). There is a missing chrome piece near the rear of the car (see pic). The interior of the car is also in great shape, though the rug has been removed. One of the passenger side windows is cracked, and so is the windshield (see pics). There is very little pitting on the chrome (see pic), and the paint is in great shape, however there are one or two spots where the paint has been removed somehow (see pic). The container that held the washer fluid is also broken (see pic). This car is a true survivor. Feel free to email me with any questions, or give me your phone number and i will get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks for looking. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Questions that I have received Any rust in the floors? – as you can see from the pictures the floor has started to rust, though there are no areas where the integrity of the floor is compromised in any way Do you know if it is original paint? – I believe, though I cannot be certain, that the paint is original Was your grandfather the original owner? – Again, I cannot be certain, but I believe my grandfather purchased the car new, my dad even drove the car to prom in the 60’s Is there any original documentation with the car? – The only documentation I have are some registration certificates from 1980s on Is the mileage documented in any way? – The only way the mileage is documented is on the mileage counter on the dash What does it have power steering, power brakes, air conditioning? – I do not know about power steering/brakes but I do know the car does not have air conditioning How is the chrome and bumpers? Is it pitted, rusted, or shiny? – There is some pitting on the bumpers but generally not on the other pieces of chrome. I tried to show this as best I could with the pictures. On Feb-15-11 at 09:36:21 PST, seller added the following information: Edit: after having a classic car enthusiast come to look at the car I have been able to confirm a few things: (1) the car does have power steering and power brakes, (2) the car is generally free of any rust and the floors only have a light coating of surface rust, (3) a lot of the trim on the car is stainless steel, and not chrome, and therefore has not pitting and is still very shiny, and (4) I missed two minor damaged pieces, the metal accent on the steering wheel is broken, but I still have the piece and it can be replaced, and the dome housing on a passenger light is broken. This car is being sold as-is with not warranties express or implied. On Feb-15-11 at 16:32:51 PST, seller added the following information: Edit # 2: The claim to fame about this car, at least in my family, was the low mileage. We always referred to it as a Buick with ~29,000 original miles. I have received some comments from potential buyers that they didn't think that the car had that few original miles. I did some digging, and found some paperwork documenting the low miles from the past. I am not ashamed to admit that my grandfather was a hermit. As you can see he only drove the car 1214 miles from 1988 to 1997. Hopefully these documents will resolve any issues that anyone may have.
