Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1996 Subaru Legacy Wagon. It's red with a grey cloth interior. Automatic transmission, all-wheel drive, air conditioning, etc. I bought the car as a project to fix up, but have run out of time with it. I've fixed most of the glaring issues, and it's now ready to either be driven in its current state or, with a few bucks and some time, it will be mechanically perfect. As it sits, I consider the car reliable (never left me stranded) and wouldn't hesitate to drive it on an extended trip. The maintenance is up to date, all electronics/lights/signals work and it's comfortable on the road. Please read the entire listing for all the details on the car before you bid. This car is being sold as-is with no warranty expressed or implied. What you see is what you get. Exterior First and foremost, this isn't the prettiest car - it has a blue hatch from an outback and I've painted the bumpers with textured bed liner to cover up the usual nicks and scrapes. I've used this on other cars and it's incredibly tough, durable coating that will resist nicks and chips. The car comes with a tow hitch and ball (see pictures). These cars tow very well, and are great for camping, moving, etc. There are the usual/assorted dents and scrapes along the side of the car, and the hood has rock chips typical of a car its age. As I've said - it isn't a show car, but the paint cleans up nicely and it's presentable. Overall, the exterior is clean with no major dents. The bumpers fit well, etc.Tires are in good condition. I wouldn't hesitate to take the car on a long trip with them - they should be good to go for awhile. Interior The interior is in fair condition with no rips or tears on the seats, headliner or upholstery. Non-smoker car, etc. There are some cola stains on the interior - I've used some automotive upholstery cleaner, and the majority of the stains came out, but there are still some primarily in the driver's footwell and a few light stains in the passenger footwell. Overall, the car cleans up nicely and the interior is comfortable. The car comes with a tape player and all interior electronics function.Dash, steering wheel and interior plastics are in good shape - some scuffs here and there, but nothing major. The center armrest cover is missing - it came with the car, but the latch is broken so I just drove the car with it off. Mechanical The car's service is up to date - the timing belt was changed 1,200 miles ago, and I have some (not all) service records showing regular oil changes. It was due for an oil change when I bought it, so I changed the oil and filter. The oil coming out looked fine - no coolant or sludge. As preventative maintenance, I've also installed new Rain-X wipers front and rear and topped off the various fluids. Power steering was a bit low when I got it, though the system wasn't making any noises. Steering feel is good and the car tracks and brakes straight. Cooling and charging systems all function properly. It hasn't burned oil or coolant since I've owned it.It does sometimes take a couple turns of the key to start - it has never failed to start, but my assumption is the starter solenoid needs to be cleaned. The AWD system is starting to show the symptoms of torque bind - in very tight turns, the AWD system clicks. This is avoidable by turning while the car's in motion and by taking wider turns, or you can put the FWD fuse in for driving in town. This is a common issue with Subarus of this generation - easiest fix is to change trans and diff fluids to something heavier and/or put the FWD fuse in for driving around town.
