1964 Mercedes-Benz 230SL "Pagoda" Roadster - EUROPEAN Model!! “For a human being, 40 years is a good amount of time, but to an automobile it’s an eternity! The ravages of time aren’t just from nature. Tastes change, trends die, and once-envied designs have a way of looking absurd. Once in a while though, an automobile endures despite all this, and ultimately, becomes a classic. On March 13, 1963 Mercedes-Benz unveiled the second-generation SL, the W113 230SL at the Geneva Auto Show”. Owning a Mercedes SL gives a person a real driving enjoyment and pride of ownership. When these cars were first manufactured, Mercedes-Benz adhered to construction methods that resulted in a standard that was the envy of the automotive industry. Every Mercedes-Benz model shared a build quality second to none. Today, this beauty is 47 years old, looks amazing, and charming, like the first day it left the factory, and it will turn heads, and spark conversations anywhere it goes! It is an early production number 1,698 out of only 19,831 230 SL’s ever produced, and with times, these SL’s are getting harder and harder to come by, and their values are increasing rapidly! This particular “Pagoda” is EUROPEAN model 230SL, which comes with more elegant and desirable one piece “fishbowl” front headlights, 4-speed manual transmission, Speedometer in KM/h, and as being early production 230SL, vertical mount spare tire. About this Beauty: -Interior and Exterior It’s Metallic Medium Blue paint (paint code#396 mittelblau) has a very nice shine and luster, and coupled with dark blue interior this car looks very elegant. Color combination is original, matches its data card, and it’s absolutely beautiful! All chrome is complete and this little roadster is a head turner and conversation piece everywhere it goes. This car is an original and unmolested example of the timeless German sports car! It was never fully restored, but it is a very strong, and nicely kept daily driver. All original welding dots along the front and rear fenders, hood, are still present, showing originality of this car. Hood, chassis plate (Karosserie) number, hard-top, and soft-top lid or “horse shoe” are all having a matching number ending in “698” (please see pictures in the album), which is another evidence of the originality of this Mercedes. Structurally this Mercedes is in very good condition, and its body is straight and solid. There are some small signs of rust repairs on the floor boards, but rest of the car is very nice and solid (please see pictures). Soft top is missing. Hard top is in excellent condition, including all the glass, headliner, and rubber around windows. Headliner and rubber around the windows were all replaced couple of years ago, and they are in excellent condition. Who knows these cars, knows well that replacing headliner on the hard top is one of the hardest things to do on these cars, as all windows need to come out, making it very costly and time consuming, but no worries now, as that has been done! All 4 matching white-wall Dunlop tires are new, and make this car ride and handle very comfortably. Dark blue Interior looks good, showing its aged patina. Wood around front windshield is complete, and in very nice condition. Carpet is nice, clean, and complete. Seats are nice, rips and tears free. Interior is complete down to its original working Becker-Mexico radio, and Kienzle Clock which will remind you of good ol’ times!!! Engine and Transmission Over the last few years there has been over $7,000 invested (receipts provided) into maintenance of this car, and to keep it running like a top. Its mechanically fuel injected straight 6 cylinder engine performs great, and has no problems of developing high speeds (please see pictures). Engine is very solid and it runs great! Manual and highly desirable 4-speed transmission makes this roadster absolute joy and fun to drive. It goes through all gears easily and effortlessly. Oil change, tune up including new spark plugs, battery, starter, and other maintenance were all done in the last few weeks, and this car is ready to be driven and enjoyed. This Mercedes comes with its original tools, spare tire, jack, original books, manuals, receipts and other documents. They are just joy to have and read, taking you back through time.
