Vehicle Detail
This is the real deal – if you're reading this listing, I probably don't have to tell you what you're looking at, but I will... This is a 2004 Volkswagen R32, the one before they redesigned the body and made it ugly. And this is the bright blue color that everyone wanted when it came out. I am the original owner, have kept all service records as it was serviced exclusively by the VW dealership in Santa Monica, California. And the car has never been in an accident or had any major work done – this is as close to new showroom condition as you are going to find for a 2004 R32. If you have been searching for this car, break out your holiday bonus and tax refund now because you won't find another one of these in this condition anytime soon – the car has only 40,825 miles!!! On top of all that, there are no mods (modifications) so this car is virgin territory. I did replace the tires with a set of Pirelli P Zero Nero M+S tires only 5,000 miles ago, and I added a spare tire to the trunk, something that no R32 came with originally. This spare is not full size but is the same "doughnut" that Audi used for the 2004 TT, so it fits perfectly. This spare also includes the attachment needed to use it on the front wheels, which have different mounts. Other than a brand new battery and antenna purchased last month, that's about it. If you've ever driven an R32, you already know it seriously hauls - this needs to be owned by someone that loves to drive, whether you choose to leave it stock or go wild with the mods. I'm not much of a car enthusiast myself so it was never raced or driven intensely on a track or on in street races like some R32's. I mostly just used it for commuting and taking the occasional casual road trip within California and a few times to Las Vegas. This car has seen no inclement weather, snow, or frozen temperatures, and I live far enough away from the coast that salt water damage is not an issue either. I really have nothing bad to say about this car, but it's time for me to pass it on to the next lucky owner. The only imperfections to report are some scuffs to the rims, which are the original ones that came with the car, and some tiny marks made by my watch on the aluminum on drivers side armrest (see picture). Some questions you might have... - Why are you selling the car? I'm mostly selling the car because I need some cash right now to pay off some higher interest credit card debt. Since I own the car outright, I just want to free up the equity to make some other payments. Also, I know this car is sought after, and I haven't made any modifications or really used it to its fullest extent, so I think it's about time that someone else who fully appreciates its possibilities get a shot at this ride. Lastly, after six years the thought of driving a different car just sounds like a nice change of pace for me. - What kind of work has been done to the car? Really almost all of the work done on this car has been the regular servicing, all of which was done by the VW dealer. I don't work on cars myself, and I don't have a local mechanic that I trust. So it's all been dealer work, and I have all of the records from over six years to prove it. The only thing besides replacing the tires that cost anything significant was a broken cooling fan about a year and a half ago that the dealer said was a freak accident. That cost about a grand to fix, but that's the only costly issue I can think of. There is no longer an active warranty, but you could probably purchase one if desired. - Any complaints about this R32? When I first bought the car the lack of a spare tire was a real pain. VW decided to cut corners to save costs and only included a cheap air pump and some temporary tire filler goo in place of an actual spare. After I got stranded with my first flat tire, I decided to find a solution. The car had a well in the trunk for a spare so I knew one was possible. After some research I found the doughnut that's in there now, and it has come in handy a few times. Once I got the spare, I stopped having any complaints about the R32. - Any imperfections other than the scuffs on the rims and the drivers side armrest? In the past few weeks, the car has been in showroom condition. The body of the car might have a few new small surface marks by the time it sells, but most have been buffed out recently. I can guarantee that anything on the car when it sells would only be minor, removable with some polish. There are no dents or noticeable damage otherwise to the car that would require work from a body shop. - Has the car been stored indoors? Yes, All of my employers for the past few years have had underground garages so the car has been kept indoors during the day away from sun and any other weather. At night it's been kept in my private driveway, not on the street. Since this is Southern California, it's mostly been 65-75 degrees with little rain. - Are the seats in good condition? First, this car has been driven with just myself in the drivers seat about 99% of the time. So all of the other seats are in fabulous like-new condition. The drivers seat has no problems, and the wear is pretty minor since I only weigh 150 lbs and haven't put much stress on the leather. It just hasn't seen the wear that most seats in a 2004 have seen. The leather is a little shiny/polished, but that's about it. No holes, major wrinkles, or scuffs whatsoever. - Will you accept trade-ins or financing? Sorry, I cannot accept trades of any kind, as I am looking to sell the car for a full cash value at this point. If you want financing, you can obtain that from a third party, who will provide you with a check to give to me for the car. I will gladly accept that as payment pending full clearance of the check by my bank. - Does anything extra come with the car? Yes! I've mentioned the spare tire and various attachments (and jack) that come with that. But I also have an original key that has never been used. The remote and buttons are in perfect new condition, as they've been sitting in my file cabinet since the day I bought the car. I also have a valet key (just the ignition/door key with no remote) that is also in unused condition. Both of those have been stored on an R32 keychain that I will send with the car. I also have a matching R32 license plate frame on the car that I'll include in addition to a blue VW "Drivers Wanted" MagLite. Lastly, all original manuals and paperwork, including the original window sticker, will be included. Like I said, you won't find another 2004 R32 like this one - even from a dealer. - What is the best part of owning the R32? The sound. This car makes the most perfect roar when it first starts up and then especially going down the street. I will miss the sound of the exhaust for sure! If you have any unanswered questions, I'm more than happy to answer them or discuss in more detail. Serious inquiries only please! I don't have time to discuss the joys of R32 ownership with everyone who dreams of someday owning this car - if you're in the market to buy right now, then I'll make myself available to talk. I have a Carfax report that is totally clean, and as stated I still have all other service records. If you purchase the car, I will provide the clean title, bill of sale, service records, and if you live in California I'll also provide a new smog check, which is needed by the California DMV. If you live locally, I'm happy to find time to show you the car in person, or if you have a local mechanic I can show them. If you wish to ship the car elsewhere, you must make all arrangements and payments for that yourself. Let me know if you have any questions - I look forward to hearing from you and finding the right owner for this fine automobile!
