Vehicle Detail

Hello, up for auction is a 2001 Volvo XC70 5 cyl turbo AWD wagon. Car is in very good condition with one exception. There are transmission issues. My wife and I were driving to visit our daughter Christmas eve when the problem began. We pulled over at once and determined that going on would cause further damage, so had the car towed to the Volvo dealer for inspection and repair. Unfortunately for us, it was Christmas eve and the dealership was closed…until Monday. This last Monday the Volvo place called me with very puzzling news. They verified there was definitely a problem with the transmission, but needed to do some repair in order to determine the extent. Evidently there is a “bevel gear” and possibly a sleeve that would need to be replaced. This is in the part I would refer to as the transfer case ( the part connecting the front drive to the rear drive). The dealer wanted 2500 to get to this step. Then they could determine if the transmission itself was damaged in which case it would be another 5000. The Blue Book is around 7500 for this car. I just could not see putting that much money into repairing it so made the determination to do nothing, replace the car and make it available to someone who has the wherewithal to repair or have it repaired. I can tell you that the car can move under its own power, but clearly, it will not get far in its current condition, ie. it can be driven up on a trailer or tow truck but that is about all you can do at this point. This is very unfortunate for me as we have been Volvo owners for many years and feel like we are pulling the plug on a dear family member. This was my wife’s car and she is in mourning as she loved this car. Now for the good news for the person winning this auction. The last car we had was a 940 and sold it to a college student with 240K miles and still running strong. So, in the right hands this one has another 100K+ to go, I bet. This has been a very reliable car for us. The car has always been treated well and never abused. For example, the most recent service done include two new front wheel bearings this past late summer (900), Two new rear tires (Michelin) in October (350), Timing Belt at 122K miles (400). Two front tires last year as a result of a blow out enroute from vacation and stuck in east (cant remember) Georgia. So as you can see this car has not been neglected and all needed service was always done on the vehicle. This is an Ash Gold car with taupe or tan leather interior and third fold down seat in the rear and was always garage kept so the paint is in very good condition. We averaged around 10K miles per year. We are the second owners having purchase the car from a lease program in 2004 when the car had 78K miles. There is no rust anywhere that I can see. It has a trailer hitch with 1 1/4” receiver use to pull a small folding utility trailer and bicycle carrier. When we had the hitch installed, the wiring is inside the rear of the car and only used when the trailer is used, so no exposure to road grime, and is in excellent condition. The heaviest thing we hauled was some mulch about 2 miles from the house. I do not think the service spare has every been on the ground. All the electronics work, heated seats, AC, radio CD/tape. It has the built in garage door openers and heated leather seats. The front seats are also power with the driver seat having memory. Engine runs very well, just changed the oil the day before the fateful trip. Car was steady on the highway, a very smooth and comfortable ride, no drifting or uneven tire wear. It has been our most dependable car and hate that this has happened. You can tell by the photos that the car is in good shape. The photos were taken at the dealership service parking lot where the car was towed. We did not have time to clean the car interior. The way you see it is how it was on our trip and the way we have always kept it. No dogs, kids or smoking etc to tear it up. It is difficult to see but there is a small ding on the passenger side front fender just behind the marker light, a result of the wife negotiating our garage. Also, the back top of the rear seat has a crack in the plastic frame from hauling something in the car... again difficult to see in the photos but does not affect the function or use. I did use a glue gun to repair it, so unless you look closely you could not tell the damage. The title is clear. The car is located in Charleston WV and I live in the Cleveland Ohio area. So the winner will need to make arrangements to have the car picked up there. I am willing to make the title available upon successful completion of this transaction. Paypal is preferred, but will entertain other payment options such as cashiers check. Check must clear prior to pick up of vehicle or transfer of title.
