Vehicle Detail
I bought this car in 2007 from the original owner in central California who bought it here in Reno in 1990. It is in very good condition, but it is 22 years old- there are cracks in the dash (seen in photos), some of the interior lights are not working, and it's going to need various repairs over the next few years. And though I will miss it, it's time to sell it. The original owner had the AC upgraded to a heavy-duty 134 system and repainted it (same red color), but the paint is peeling in some minor areas. When I bought it, I put over $4000 into various miscellaneous things including replacing the clutch, re-tinting the windows, a Yakima roof rack (with two bike attachments), and a full aftermarket stereo system (pre-wired for addition of a subwoofer) with an Alpine iPod interface. I also have two sets of wheels and tires, the original BMW 34-spoke silver and matte black 5-spoke wheels that I bought last winter with a set of winter tires, in addition to the standard summer tires that are on it now. In the past year I did an electrical tune-up (new wires, distributor, plugs, etc.) and new rear suspension. I also had the front half-shafts out to replace the CV boots, and they are in still in very good condition. All in all, it runs great, is fun to drive, is unbelievable in the snow, and whether you plan to drive it into the ground or continue to take care if it, you won't be disappointed in this purchase. Cash or money order only please. Buyer is responsible for delivery of the car. Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions. On Jan-03-11 at 06:10:05 PST, seller added the following information: Like I said, the car is 22 years old. The engine does leak small amounts of oil, enough to be annoying but not enough to require adding oil between regular oil changes. It appears there is a minor leak on the front of the engine that would be fixed when the timing belt is changed- something that according to BMW will need to be addressed within the next 5,000 miles. All brake pads and front rotors were done this past year as well. It has had regular service. While not always BMW brand, I have always used OEM spec parts for all mechanical work. Exceptions being the obvious (stereo, black wheels, roof rack, etc). I have all maintenance records for any work that I did not do myself, including those from the previous owner who always took it to a BMW dealer. On Jan-04-11 at 15:46:35 PST, seller added the following information: I have added pictures of the peeling paint and the chipped windshield, there are a total of two chips like the one in the photo. In addition, my dad worked on the CV boot replacement and half-shat rebuild with me and this is his opinion on the vibration issue- just more information to add to the response to the question below: Regarding the front wheel bearing, I don't think it's a half shaft problem. I think it's a wheel bearing problem. You would need to pull the front wheel and get the bearing pressed out I think and install new but as I remember it the shafts were good, it just needed a front wheel bearing replaced.
