EM2 INC IS VERY PROUD TO PRESENT THE SECOND U14 WE HAVE DONE SINCE MOLLY 'S GOT DONE IN 1996. THIS U14 FACTORY BRONCO PICKUP HAS BEEN OUR PET PROJECT FOR THE LAST 5 WEEKS. WE THINK YOU WILL BE VERY HARD PRESSED TO DISCOVER A NICER AND MORE MODERNLY FUNCTIONAL U14 ANYWHERE. LET'S START WITH THE BODY: WE TOOK THE PREVIOUS OWNERS PAINT OFF THE BRONCO AND DECIDED TO MAKE A MANUAL TRANS TWIN OF THE OWNER'S U14. THE BODY PANELS FIT AND FINISH ARE EXEMPLARY. THE FLOOR PANS WERE REPLACED ALREADY AND WE SAW NO REASON TO REPLACE ANYTHING ELSE UNDERNEATH BECAUSE IT WAS SO NICE. THE UNDERSIDE HAS BEEN ROLOCKED AND ETCH PRIMED, RED OXIDED, AND THEN PAINTED BODY COLOR. WE THEN TOOK SEM CHIP GUARD AND USED IT FOR TEXTURE. THEN WE ADDED TWO MORE COATS OF BODY COLOR. THE UNDERSIDE IS DIALED FOLKS. THE COSMETIC SIDE IS TWO STAGE SHERWINN WILLIAMS ULTRA 7000 "MIDNIGHT BLUE METALLIC"( OUR PAINTER'S CHOICE OF BRAND AND QUALITY LEVEL). IT CAME OUT GREAT. WE WELDED THE WINDOW FRAMES SO THEY WORK AS THE FACTORY INTENDED AND CAN BE REMOVED FOR THE BEACH BUMS. WE INSTALLED A BRAND NEW QUALITY HOOD FROM TOM'S BRONCO . WE USED TOM'S HOOD SHOCKS, MIRRORS, AND LENSES AS WELL. WE FINISHED UP WITH BRAND NEW "AZURE " HIGH PERFORMANCE DOOR AND VENT GLASS TO KEEP THE SUN'S HEAT OUT.THE BEST PART IS THAT WE USED ALL NEW GASKETING AND WEATHERSTRIP WHILE PUTTING THE DOORS AND TOP TOGETHER. THE TOP IS TWO STAGE "WIMBLEDON WHITE" AND THE GRILL AND DASH ARE AMERICAN RACING SILVER.WE USED PNFAB FRONT N' REAR BUMPERS FOR THIS LITTLE U14. THE FRONT WINCH BUMPER HOUSES A NEW WARN 9.5TI WINCH. THE REAR UTILIZES A SWING AWAY APPARATUS THAT EASILY SUPPORTS THE 33X12.50R15 AND MT 15X10 SPARE AS WELL AS A RECEIVER HITCH.THE ROLL CAGE IS FROM TOM'S BRONCO PARTS AND IS MADE FOR THE U14 BED. INTERIOR: WE INSTALLED A NEW DASH PAD, HEATER SWITCH,AND REDID THE STEERING COLUMN TO ACCOMODATE THE FLOOR SHIFTED 5 SPEED AX-15 AND NP231 TRANSFER CASE LINKAGE. THIS MAKES REMOVING THE ORIGINAL THREE ON THE TREE LINKAGE A MUST FOR ANY SELF RESPECTING FAB TECH. WE INSTALLED THE KENWOOD MP245 WITH REMOTE AND (4) 150W KENWOOD SPEAKERS WITHOUT DRILLING ANY OF THE BODY OR DOORS. THE FLOOR IS CARPETED WITH FACTORY TYPE INSULATED CARPET(OVER RHINO LINING) AND THE HEADLINER IS FULL TO THE BACK MAKING THE RIG VERY QUIET GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. IN FACT, YOU CAN BARELY HEAR THE DUAL MAGNA FLOW EXHAUST WITH HEADERS WHILE THE DOORS AND WINDOWS ARE CLOSED.WE ALSO USED A NEW WINDSHIELD GLASS AND GASKET. THIS IS A VERY,VERY NICE INTERIOR AS BRONCO'S GO. THE U14 FACTORY BENCH SEAT WAS USED WITH TWO SETS OF FACTORY LAP BELTS. THE STEERING WHEEL IS BY TOM'S BRONCO AND THE HORN AND TURN SIGNAL CAM ARE REPLACED AND FUNCTIONAL. THE STEERING IS JUST TIGHT ENOUGH TO FEEL THE ROAD AND EASY ENOUGH FOR GRANDMA TO STEER THIS BRONK. NO SURPRISES HERE. CHASSIS AND SUSPENSION: HERE IS WHERE WE HAVE THE FUN. THE LIFT IS A 4" DUFF LIFT WITH DUAL SHOCKS AT ALL FOUR CORNERS. THE FRONT END IS A NEWER DANA 44 WITH DETROIT LOCKERS AND 4:11 GEARS. THE REAR 9" DIFFERENTIAL IS ALSO DETROIT LOCKERS WITH 4:11 RATIO. THE BUSHINGS ARE NEW AND THE STEERING LINKAGE,DROPPED PITMAN ARM, DROPPED TRACK BAR,AND REAR SPRINGS WERE CHANGED FOR RIDE AND LEVELING. WE THEN ADAPTED A NEW AX-15 5 SPEED WITH AN NP231 ALUMINUM TRANSFER CASE TO THIS ALREADY LIKE NEW RIG. THE FIT IS PERFECT AND THE LINKAGE ENDS UP IN THE ABSOLUTE BEST LOCATION FOR DRIVEABILITY. WE RETAINED THE FACTORY TRANSFER CASE SHIFTER FOR THE NP231(JEEP ITEM) AND THE TRANS SHIFT LEVER COMES FROM A DAKOTA PICKUP. PERFECT FITS FOR THE BRONK. THE CLUTCH AND PRESSURE PLATE ARE HI PRO. WHEN YOU COUPLE THESE TO A FRESH 5 LITRE MOTOR YOU HAVE THE BEST OF ALL BRONCO WORLDS. CLEARANCE, GEARING, STEERING, BRAKING ( NEW POWER DISCS UP FRONT WITH DRUM REAR). THE DRIVELINES ARE NEW AND PROFESSIONALLY BALANCED WITH NEW U -JOINTS AND CV'S.THE SPEEDO CABLE IS PROFESSIONALLY ADAPTED TO THE NP231 AS WELL. THE TIRES ARE (5) NEW 33X12.50R15 BIGHORN MUD TERRAINS AND THE WHEELS ARE MT 15X10 RACING WHEELS. IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY AT THE UNDERSIDE PICS YOU WILL SEE WHY WE HAD 5 WEEKS IN THIS RESTORATION. ENGINE: WHEN WE RECEIVED THE BRONCO THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD A SHOP INSTALL A FRESHLY REBUILT C8AE-6015B BLOCK (WINDSOR PLANT). THE HEADS HAVE THREE ANGLE GRINDS AND THE VALVE SEATS ARE HARDENED. IT HAS A NEW WATER PUMP, MSD 6A IGNITION AND DISTRIBUTOR, 4 BARREL EDELBROCK 500CFM, CHROME EDELBROCK ENGINE DRESS KIT, NEW POWER STEERING PUMP. ( THERE IS A TRIPLE GROOVE CRANK PULLEY IF AIR CONDITIONING IS INSTALLED DOWN THE ROAD), NEW RADIATOR, FAN SHROUD, OPTIMA BATTERY, SPLIT FIRE PLUGS, HEAT JACKETS FOR THE HEADER HEAT, NEW POWER DISC BRAKES, EDELBROCK "PERFORMER" ALUMINUM INTAKE, AND FINALLY A NEW WINDOW WASHER RESERVOIR AND PUMP. THE HORN IS AFTERMARKET BUT FUNCTIONAL THROUGH THE FACTORY HORN SWITCH. WE DOUBLE CHECKED ALL THE WIRING AND ROUTING. THE NEW TACH IS HOOKED UP THROUGH THE MSD 6A IGNITION MODULE CORRECTLY. OVERALL: OVERALL WE HAVE TO SAY THIS IS A 9, BUT WE HAVE NEVER SEEN A 10! THE U 14'S ARE RARE AND HARD TO FIND, ESPECIALLY LIKE THIS ONE. THE 302 4V AX-15 5 SPEED WITH DANA 44 FRONT AND 4:11 DETROIT LOCKERS FRONT N' REAR MAKE THIS ONE BADASS U14 WE AFFECTIONATELY CALL "DRESS BLUE". THE 5 SPEED MAKES HIGHWAY CRUISING PLEASUREABLE AND THE 3.50 :1 FIRST GEAR MAKES OFF- ROADING ALL TOO EASY. IF YOU NEED TO PULL YOUR HOUSE OFF THE FOUNDATION, SLIP IT INTO 4WL IN FIRST GEAR AND LET HER RIP. OUCH!!! 70 MPH IS 2400 RPM AT CRUISING ELEVATION.
