Vehicle Detail
This auction is for a very rare 2000 all electric Ford Ranger. Ford built these electric trucks from 1998-2001. Ford produced about 1500 of these trucks but only about 400 are known to survive (Ford crushed most of them like the GM EV1) making this a fun and collectable piece of automotive history. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Ranger_EV and http://www.fordrangerev.com The tuck is equipped with: Power steering Heat and air conditioning Power ABS breaks Air bags 39, 8 volt lead acid batteries providing 18 kWh and weighing 1,950 pounds A 90 Hp three phase electric traction motor with surprisingly good acceleration for the vehicle weight Single speed gearbox/differential, no transmission. Rear wheel drive Water cooled motor and power electronics Regenerative breaking Rear suspension consisting of a De Dion tube The top speed is governed 75 mph. This truck is in very good condition with only 10,650 miles. This truck is 100 times better then anything that can be built DIY. Originally this truck cost $34,000. Most parts including rebuilt batteries are still available. Many people have started converting these trucks to lithium ion batteries and getting a driving range of 80+ miles. The Truck’s Story I purchased this EV about two years ago from a municipality in Oklahoma who purchased this truck new. The battery pack was dead so I shipped the vehicle to Battery MD in Sacramento California. They specialize in reconditioning the batteries in these trucks as well as supply replacement parts. They installed a new reconditioned battery pack and check the tuck over for any additional issues. They batteries were the only thing that needed repair. The truck was then delivered to me in Texas where I have enjoyed it ever since. I have driven it for a year and a half and put about 1,000 miles on it (I live in a small town). One of the batteries failed and was replaced about 6-7 months ago (#18). After the replacement I was getting about 20 miles on a charge. About 2 months ago a second battery failed. This battery module (#3) needs to be replaced. It is not drivable at this time. I have not had the time or recourses to replace the dead battery. This is the second Ranger I have owned and I have had my fun with it and am ready to pass it on. I was going to convert this to lithium but I have may other projects in need of my time. I’m currently installing solar panels and a wind turbine at my house. I’m hoping to pass this wonderful truck to someone with an interest in EVs. I have never had any other issues with the truck. Everything else works perfectly (power brakes, power steering, heat, AC, etc.). I drove this to work often in combined highway (60 mph) and city driving and regularly got 40 miles on a charge before the battery replacement. What’s Included The purchase of the truck will include: · The truck as seen in the photos · The snap on bed cover · The original spare with the Uniroyal Tiger paw low rolling resistance tire. This tire was specially developed for this tuck. They spare has never been mounted. · One Avcon charger interface control box (its technically not the charger but a power interface to the tuck. The battery charger is under the hood). It is the picture of the white box with the lit green LED. This has the optional 25 foot long vehicle plug on it so the truck doesn’t have to be parked right next to the box. This is about $100 option. The normal length is 12 feet. · One OBD II reader with the Ranger EV software card (see picture). This will allow you to diagnose any issues that may surface. This is a MUST have for working on these vehicles. · A full set of Ford shop manuals and “Introduction to electric vehicles and high voltage safety training”. · Printed Ford shop manual, “Introduction to electric vehicles and high voltage safety training, and a third binder with info on the NiMH Ranger and additional wiring diagrams. All in three ring binders (see picture) · A second charging interface, ICS-200 http://www.bowzerbird.com/eviweb/Products/ICS200-B.pdf. This type was used in public spaces. This model Talks you through the charging procedure and tells you if something is wrong. It powers up but it thinks that the cable is being pulled on and won’t finish its charging connection. This error is due to a sensor inside that has corroded. It’s a basic photo sensor and someone with some electronics skills could either replace the sensor or devise a jumper to bypass it. I may be able to repair before the delivery of the truck. These are very rare and new cost over $2,000. · A third charging interface, ICS-50 that is new in the original box. It has never been used. Condition Overall the truck is in very good condition. There is not rust. I put new Continental Cross Contact tires and Monroe Sensatrac shocks on the front and Gabriel Ultras on the back. They only have about 1,000 miles on them. There is one very small door ding on the passenger’s side door. It so small it won’t show up in a photo. The bed has scratches and wear as you would expect with a truck. There is a dent and blue paint on the top of the tailgate. See the picture. The interior is in good shape but need some additional cleaning. The seats have no tears but need more cleaning. The windshield has a chip on the drivers side. Under the hood the previous owner wrote the name of each component on each component with what looks like a Sharpie. This can be easily removed. I left the writing on it because I would often take this to car shows and it helped answer people’s questions. Additional pictures available upon request. Disclaimer This truck operates on high voltage (312 VDC nominal). This can be VERY dangerous so the owner is responsible for this or her own safety when working on the truck. Driving it is completely safe but be cognizant of any wires in orange loom as they are high voltage. High voltage is isolated inside the battery pack then the vehicle is off. In other words no wires outside the battery pack are hot when the vehicle is off and not charging. I would recommend the owner be mechanically inclined and technology savvy. This tuck isn’t suited for the average person. The truck does not come with any warrantee either expressed or implied and is sold as is. I design, build, and test fuel cell hybrid vehicles for a living so I have a lot of experience with EVs and high voltage. You don’t need a degree to work on this you just need a good technical aptitude. I have done my best to describe the condition. Please let me know if you have any questions. Most parts including rebuilt batteries are still available. Information on conversions to 12 lead acid and lithium ion batteries are available on the internet. Bidding If you have less then 20 feedbacks or a negative feedback with in the past 6 months you must contact me first before bidding otherwise I reserve the right to cancel you bid. My zip code is 77845.On Dec-29-10 at 19:40:51 PST, seller added the following information: The ICS-200 has been repaired and is working normally to the best of my knowledge. However the charging paddle has some damage that makes it hard to insert in the truck receptacle. This can be repaired but an extra charging paddle with 14 ft cable and an extra charging receptacle are included with the auction. See pictures for details. The auction also includes 3 quarts of OW gear oil for the gearbox as well as a portable charging stand the contains a retractable cord reel with approximately 20 feet of 50 amp cable (blue box). See pictures for details. This piece is very heavy but can be placed in the bed of the truck for shipping by transporter.
