The car also delivered a level of fuel efficiency that was uncommon in those days. In fact, its almost 30 miles per gallon average fuel consumption rivals some of the more fuel-friendly vehicles of today. When both the 911 and 912 were in production in 1966, the 912 was by far the more popular model. General Specifications Although there were variants on some features, the general specifications for the 1967 Porsche 912 included a flat 4-cylinder 1582 cc engine. That might sound small for a Porsche (roughly 97 cubic inches), but it was equipped with two dual carburetors, meaning each cylinder had a devoted carburetor. The Porsche 912 was 163.9 inches in length, 63.4 inches wide and 51.97 inches tall. It weighed just under 2,100 lbs. Performance The Porsche 912 didn't have the kind of power that you might expect from a Porsche, but again, it did get nearly 30 miles to the gallon. The horsepower of the vehicle was 102. The car could do 0 to 60 mph in a little over 11 and a half seconds. A quarter mile could be run in just over 18 seconds. The top speed of the 1967 Porsche 912 was just under 120 miles per hour. 912 Information Visually similar to the 911, the 4 cylinder 912 first appeared in 1965 effectively replacing the 356C. Mechanically the 912 used the 911 suspension, (and later the dual-circuit brakes of the 911), but was powered by the old 356, 1582cc engine. The 912 came in both Coupe and Targa formats, late cars used the revised longer wheelbase of the sister 911. 912's were particularly popular in the US, indeed the 912 confusingly reappeared in 1975 for the US market only. Apart from its brief reappearance in 1975 the production of the 912 finished in 1969, by then over 30,000 cars had been built. ~ History on this Magnificent Classic Beauty ~ I bought this amazing classic car about two years ago from a private estate that was part of an elderly gentlemen’s private collection.
