Vehicle Detail
You are looking at my father-in laws 1968 GTO. It is a real GTO not a Lemans or Tempest dressed up to look like a GTO. Power is a 1968 400 but it is not the one that it came with from the factory, we took it out of a gran prix when we started the restoration in 97. He bought the car in the winter of 96 drove it for that summer and started taking it apart the following winter and piece by piece took the next 7 years to put it back together. After all that work, his wife thinks it's to loud and to fast which is the biggest reason it is up for sale, that and he bought a 66 lamans sprint like he had when he was a kid and she said one or the other. I'll describe the good and the less then good as best as I can, I tried to take pictures of any problem area I don't want anyone buying somthing they don't want. The engine: '68 400 .030 over forged pistons, comp cams hydrolic cam, edelbrock alumium heads, with 1966 factory 3x2 tripower carb set up (long story) correct carbs all redone by the carb shop with adjustable progressive linkage and newer fuel lines they work awsome, high tourque mini starter, hooker super comp headers flowmaster exhaust 2.5 inch. The trans: Muncie m21 close ratio, compleatly rebuilt has the correct 1968 factory hurst shifter rebuilt by hurst, Hays steel flwheel centerforce clutch etc. The rear axel is a Strange Engineering S60 (dana 60) with 3.50 gears and a detroit tru track posi traction differental, it has the edelbrock boxed lower arms and adjustable upper arms, front and rear sway bars, edelbrock IAS shocks all corners One of this cars biggest assets is the interior, it is very nice has all the factory gauges they all work the dash has been recromed and the wood grain replaced it has the factory am fm radio with the "reverb" and it all works, it has tilt wheel, power trunk latch, console etc. The body has been off the frame all the bushings replaced the floor, trunk and quarters have been replaced. The wheels are 15 x7 and 15x8 crager ss with dunlop rubber. We have a whole set of 14" and or 15" rally II if you would rather have those we'll work somthing out. The less than good. Like most the nose has cracks in it there is an aftermarket fiberglass nose piece available now if you wanted, the drivers interior door panal is warped looks like it got wet from the back side. THe console has the holes from an 8 track player in a previouse life. If you ask me it could stand some paint this paint is 10-11 years old and it is still presentable but it could be better, there are a couple of places in the trunk that are coming through, again not bad but you should know, the underhood detail got covered in overspray when it was painted it could stand a sanding and som fresh black. The rear bumper has a bit of surface rust on it and it has looked like this for 10 years a little 0000 steel wool in the spring makes it 90% better. The front edges of the doors are chiped a little from years ago when the nose wasn't fit correctly (paint shop strikes again). lastly the rear window seems to leak a little small but just being honest. I've tried to show all of this in the pictures the sun kind of screwed up a few, if you would like better just email me I'll take some more. If this were my car I'd have to put disk brakes on at least the front. although it stops fine in normal driving, I find myself short on road after a quick trip through the gears. So there you have it, my finale statment is this: If you are looking for somthing to role out of the trailer and win the concours meets.. pass this one up, if you are looking for real strong pump gas mussle car, somthing that you can get in and have a ball driving like it was intended in 68 and look good doing it this is the car for you. Also he did say if you would rather not take the 3x2 cab set up we could swap it off with a 4 barral and take $1000 off the sell price. Also he mentioned the radio and reverb may not be of interist and he was willing to keep them again for a reduction in price. For what it is worth he has almost twice the starting bid in it. Please ask questions I want you to know what you are buying before you get it, check my feed back and bid with cofidence, thanks for looking.
