Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is a 1983 BMW 320i "Sport" package. This was the top model 3 series for 1983, the last year this fine car was manufactured. If you've never driven one of these cars you in for a real treat , they are one of the best driving vintage BMW's around. Powered by the bulletproof M10 4 cylinder engine that has greatness in its past, the engine block was used to power the Formula 1 BMW turbo engines of the 80's for Benneton , Brabham and other European competitors, producing as much as 1400 bhp in qualifying trim!! Keep in mind Don Garlits blown Chrysler Hemi's produced around a 1000 bhp for his slingshot drag racing Swamp Rats. In 1980"s tune this 1800 cc 4cyl was built for fuel economy using Bosch's CIS fuel injection, 35mpg highway is easily attained by the slick Getrag 5 speed. With the "S" package the impressive handling of the 320i is enhanced by the addition of a rear torsion bar stabilizer and a larger diameter front torsion bar stabilizer, a limited slip differential provided increased power transmission to the road in low traction situations. BBS light alloy wheels were fitted in the 5 1/2 x 13 inch size, an integrated front spoiler gave a sporty appearance & increased roadholding as well. Inside the front driver and passenger are held firmly in place with Recaro sport seats. A large diameter leather covered sports steering wheel, dual position manual sunroof, under bumper front foglights, and oversize deluxe trunk toolkit complete the package. This car was also ordered with a factory rear trunk spoiler. This car is in very good condition & has been well cared for its entire life. It is a no rust ever car from Boise Idaho's high desert area. It has had 1 repaint in its original alpine white color, this was a quality job from the early 90's & is holding up quite well. It was never disassembled when painted, just carefull masked and a high quality basecoat-clear coat finish applied. The superb German fit & finish still stands, the cool "ping" heard when the doors are closed. The 320i was never a fast car in its time, but what it lacked in speed was more than made up by its great handling. This would be just the ticket for a young driver because they wouldn't have to prove how fast it is-1/4 mile times in the mid 18 second range won't impress anyone but it will keep someone out of trouble, and mid 30's fuel economy won't put them in the poor house. This is a safe very well made car that has been maintained and is totally in stock unmodified condition.
