Vehicle Detail

“Magnificent Motoring,” Riley proclaimed for their immediate post-war saloon, dubbing it as a joy to drive, “a dream to own.” (excerp from British magazine “The Independent Motor”) "About the Riley RM Series: (copied from internet article) These cars were outstanding while they were current models from 1946 to 1955, and the passage of time has not affected their precise road-holding and elegant lines, nor the enthusiasm of the current generation of their owners. While not Riley thoroughbreds in the sense of their pre-war ancestors, they are essentially coachbuilt cars, hand-finished to a high standard, and both 1½ and 2½-Litre models use the famous Riley twin-cam engine." I acquired this older restoration several years ago from a car collector, and have since been upgrading some of the components. It is extremely solid and shows a nice patina of a lovingly used, well-cared-for classic…certainly a very sharp driver. Placed second in class in a large British car show this year. This era of cars had a well-designed twin cam power plant which performed well then, and still does today in this rare collectible. This Riley’s body and frame look very heavy and solid compared to today’s vehicles…definitely built to last. The paint is very nice, and will attain a beautiful shine with polish, but not show quality, as it is older and has normal wear expected. Some cracking is present on the boot lid and touch-up on the drivers rear fender from a light scrape on a garage corner. The interior has newer genuine leather front seat upholstery, with the rear being the original leather hide. I had the entire headliner replaced last year and it is pictured- looks great! Chrome is all present and original, with some pitting evident. The entire electrical system and mechanicals were gone through last year by a Riley specialist and he corrected any issues found (several thousand $$ spent!). All gauges are operable. Even the trafficaters are working! He installed the non-original breather for improved breathability for regular driving after removing the old breather unit but the original is included. Original type whitewall tires look in excellent like-new condition. Brakes work well (for early 50’s design!) but need a pump of the pedal. It runs very well with good power and no unusual noises. (Does have the typical English car oil drip). The transmission (3 speed manual) shifts perfectly in all gears with no unusual noises and a properly operating clutch. This car is elegant and stunning, drawing every eye as it passes. Seldom seen at British car shows or anywhere! It’s a lot of fun to drive. To be conveyed by bill of sale in addition to registration certificate from Vermont, a non-title state for older vehicles. I will provide a bill of sale showing transfer to you for application for title if your state requires a title for an antique vehicle. You must check to see what your state requires. This car is available for inspection any time prior to auction end. It is sold in its as is condition with no warranties. I expect all bidders to ascertain whether it is in the condition expected prior to bidding, as all sales are final, with no refunds. I have attempted to describe this vehicle thoroughly, but as with any antique vehicle, every detail cannot be covered, and one should expect normal wear and tear. I will assist with shipping arrangements although obtaining a shipper is the buyer’s responsibility. Terms: $1000 deposit within 24 hours of auction close, and full payment of the balance within 10 days of auction close. Pickup is to be within 3 weeks of auction close unless other arrangements are agreed upon PRIOR TO AUCTION END. If stated terms are not met by buyer, seller has the right to void the sale, assess storage fees, and/or resell or dispose of vehicle as deemed necessary. Good luck and happy bidding! On Dec-04-10 at 20:44:04 PST, seller added the following information: Reserve has been met folks! High bidder drives her home! Ouch...my loss is your gain...it's thousands less than I could've sold for over a year ago, but now is the time I must let the car go to a new caretaker. I will include some photos of the Riley at the show last spring! And the awarded plaque of course! She was a standout!
