Vehicle Detail

Hi there. We are relisting this car due to the buyer (1) not picking the car up, and (2) not being a registered eBay user any longer. Please make sure you are ready to pay for and pick up this vehicle if you bid on it. We are happy to assist in recommending a qualified transporter to you, just ask! This will be a "short" auction, so if you want the car, pay close attention because it ends Saturday NIGHT. We will need contact information for you at the end of the auction to FAX you a purchase order, etc. "Trudy" needs some love and a good home. Gerald and Grace titled her in 1977 in Cottage Grove, OR (a small town just south of Eugene) and it was licensed through 1981 (see pics). It has what I would call a newer amatuer two-tone paint scheme, finished in P905 Caribbean Green and P909 Snowberry White. It has seats of what appear to be the original "Bedford Cord" upholstry, trimmed in leather. This is the "Series III" model, marketed under the Metropolitan name after AMC announced they were dropping both the Nash and Hudson names. There were 11,951 total units sold in the United States in the 1958 model year (combined total of coupes and convertibles). The car appears to be equipped with its original 4 cylinder, 1489cc motor (as used in the Austin A50 Cambridge), has a 3-speed column shift transmission, and weighs 1825 lbs. When the the 1957 Metropolitan was taken on a grueling 2,912 mile road test, including a climb to 14,100 feet, the reviewer stated, "I cannot praise the Metropolitan too highly. It is a fascinating little car to drive, its performance is far better than one would expect, and the ride is likewise more than expected." This example will require some significent restoration, but it does run. It has some very small rust bumps (not through body) on the rocker panels (not too many at all actually). There are also some small rust holes in the floor pan. No door panels, inside handles, back seat bottom, or carpet. Has its original AM radio (very cool) but no clue if it works or not. All the original Tri Plex glass is there and actually in very nice shape. Chrome bumpers are there and intact and have a very nice shine to them, although not perfect. Some of the side stainless trim is missing (see pics), as are some other miscelaneous trim and assorted pieces. "What you see is what you get". The spare wheel and tire were taken off the car but will be included. Brake system needs work. Some under dash wiring needs work but is functional to start the car. The car "does run" and doesn't appear to smoke but plan on going through the motor along with the rest of the car. It will need a new battery. Whitewall tires hold air, and have decent tread, but are checked and showing their age. If you have been watching, prices on all micro cars have been escalating. Seeing a BMW Isetta 600 sell at Amelia Island this February for an astounding $74,250.00 proves that, as well as the well publicized $124,400.00 Amphicar sold at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale, $44,000.00 BMW Isetta 300s (several examples) and a 1959 Nash Metropolitan Coupe finished in turquoise and white sold for $33,000.00 at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale this January! The current (December) issue of Road & Track magazine has a feature on micro cars. With some love and readily available parts, you can have this little jewel back on the road in a jiffy. It will be well worth the time and effort! Any vintage car of this age will have its quirks and problems. No warranty is expressed written or implied. The seller shall not be responsible for the correct description, authenticity, genuineness, or defects herein, and makes no warranty in connection therewith. No allowance or set aside will be made on account of any incorrectness, imperfection, defect or damage. any descriptions or representations are for identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a warranty of any type. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have thoroughly inspected the vehicle, and to have satisfied him or herself as to the condition and value and to bid based upon that judgement solely. The seller shall and will make every resonable effort to disclose any known defects associtated with this vehicle at the buyer's request prior to the close of sale. Seller assumes no responsiblility for any repairs regardless of any oral statements about the vehicle. This car is not deemed roadworthy and must be towed or transported on a trailer or car hauler. We are a small, independant used car dealer and restoration shop in the middle of Portland, Oregon, in business since April 1989. We hand select specific vehicles to place on eBay that we think will make great cars for our future customers, most all of whom become repeat clients over the years. We are proud of our reputation and our 100% feedback here on eBay and strive to make friends here. Our vehicles are serviced, safety checked and professionally detailed prior to being listed here. We are members of OIADA, SPBA, and are market analysts for NADA Publications. Transportation is 100% buyer's responsibility, however, we are happy to assist and recommend a shipper to you. The vehicle will be stored in our indoor warehouse for up to two weeks after the auction's close, after that a $25.00 per day storage fee will be imposed and must be paid before removal of the vehicle. We require a $500.00 deposit within 48 hours of the auction's close, and the balance due within seven days by certifed bank check or bank wire transfer. Please ask any and all questions prior to bidding, as once your bid is placed, a legal enforcable contract is formed. Please do not bid if you do not have the funds to complete the transaction. The car will be sold at NO RESERVE but is listed locally and the auction may be canceled at any time. No trades at this time. We would like to thank you for bidding on this car.
