Vehicle Detail
1961 MG MGA Coupe 1600. I am listing this vehicle for a customer of mine. You may contact me through Ebay Or contact the owner directly. His name is Dave 231-547-7544 his email address is: mgbman@sbcglobal.net The following is a detailed description written by the owner: 1961 MGA COUPE- Very original and special, I am the third owner. It had 16,744 miles and now has 17,801. The W/W tires were original and the spare has never been on the ground. The factory stamped the spare tire cleaning instructions on the protective bluing, it still reads, "Instructions after mounting-remove whitewall protective paint with soapy water and brush scouring with fine steel wool if necessary. Do not use gasoline." The driving tires had great tread but were badly cracked, so I replaced them with Coker W/W 165 Radials. The interior is like new. The headliner is perfect. The leather shows very little wear for the driver and no wear for the passenger. The seats slide on the rails as if new and the factory chalk marks on the seat bottoms are like new. The glass is very good. It also has some nice options: Motorolla radio (transistor powered), Amco floor mats, Amco sun visors and a "Fulton Glare Shield" which is attached to the top of the interior rear view mirror. It is made of the same green plastic material as the sun visors and can flip down to stop the headlight glare from the car behind. It has the original tool kits-wrenches and Jack (King Dick B 1077). The first owners lived in Detroit. They had it rust proofed and painted a metallic blue over the original Iris Blue. There is a dent on the left rear quarter fender and 3 small dents on the trunk. There are 2 gas station oil change stickers on the edge of the driver's door, applied over the metallic blue paint, from Clair's Service Center, Detroit and World Wide Import Service, Oak Park, MI. They moved the car to Western Michigan for storage during the 1967 Detroit Riots and there the car remained with very little driving, which accounts for the low mileage. During this time they sprayed a rust proof primer on the engine, transmission and inner body. This and the rust proofing account for the lack of body rust on the car. Their niece who handled their estate sold it to the man I bought it from. He had other projects and didn't drive the car. I like a clean engine and engine bay, so I rebuilt the engine, cleaned it and the transmission and the entire engine bay. I planned on going back to Iris Blue so I painted the engine bay and under fender areas with Iris Blue, of course after removing and rebuilding the wiring, gas and brake lines, front suspension, all hydraulics and brakes. Due to the low miles, I used the original pistons. Since I had the block hot tanked, I needed new cam bearings. I had a machine shop perform the rear seal modification, so no leaks there. Also new are: piston rings, bearings, recorded radiatior, gas tank cleaned/sealed, new exhaust system, new T/O bearing and clutch disc. Hydraulics, new master cylinder, rear wheel cylinders and brake hoses. Rebuilt slave cylinder, front brake calipers and front and rear shock absorbers. New front suspension kit, rack seals, tie rod ends, bushing kit and upright seal kit. New rear axle hub o-rings and seals, axle pads and straps, bushings & shackle pins for rear axle. New handbrake cable, hardware kits for both bumpers, seals for front hubs, gearbox front and tail shaft, rear axle, rear engine and timing cover. Most of the miles we put on were for our drive to the MGA Convention this summer in Wisconsin. I'm selling the car without finishing it due to health reasons. It is a one of a kind.
