Vehicle Detail
UP FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION is an amazing 1959 Ford Galaxie 500 4-door Town Sedan that is truly one of those legendary barn finds we all hear about. According to several reliable sources, this car has just 32,594 ACTUAL MILES and only THREE OWNERS SINCE NEW! This is how its unique history was told to me: The vehicle was purchased new at Corbitt-Hammock Ford by a widowed school teacher in Milington, Tennessee in 1959. In 1978, after becoming unable to drive due to cataracts, she sold the car to an old schoolmate at her 50th class reunion. It was driven little and was eventually stored inside for many years before finding its way to Alabama. I purchased it last year shortly after it was removed from storage. The Galaxie shows a total of 32,594 on its odometer, and based upon what I have been told, that is ACTUAL MILES. When I bought the car I discovered that the odometer was not working. After investigating, I was told that a transmission seal was replaced by the prior owner when the car was removed from storage, and apparently the cable was either left off or not re-installed correctly. I eventually contacted the family who purchased the car from the original owner in 1978, and they verified that the mileage is correct. It has been driven fewer than 20 miles since leaving storage. 1959 was the first year for the Galaxie line, and Ford's intent was to create a big car that had a Thunderbird look and feel. That's exactly what Ford accomplished with this beautiful car. This Galaxie has several options that make it quite rare. It was ordered from the factory with the Thunderbird Special 332 V8, "Fordomatic" automatic transmission, factory clock, radio, two-tone paint, and tri-tone deluxe interior. Most, if not all of this car is still wearing its original paint. The body is in absolutely amazing condition; I have found ZERO rust on the body anywhere - a rarity for 50s Fords. Even the spare tire well in the trunk is as solid as a rock. The body's extensive panels are straight and free of filler or dents. You will not find an example with a body that is more solid than this one. From a mechanical standpoint, this car starts, runs, and drives; the gas tank and fuel lines are new. The previous owner said he had completely gone through the brakes, and they work fine. It has had a fairly recent tune-up consisting of distributor cap, plugs, wires, points, condenser, and plugs. I just took the Galaxie on a short drive through my neighborhood and it runs strong, shifts good, and drives nicely. However, because of her age, I suggest that she be transported to her new home. I have a contact who will be happy to visit with you about transportation, and he is very reasonable. As with any 50-year-old car, this vehicle deserves some tinkering. You may wish to perform some cosmetic reconditioning and mechanical enhancements. I'm not representing it to be perfect; she's a 51-year-old survivor - so you should plan on addressing some minor issues. The headliner needs some attention, and the passenger door latch needs adjustment; little things like that. Based upon my own experience with the car, it's in great shape for its age. Because I'm losing my storage in a few weeks, I'm selling this rare car on a "HAS TO GO" basis. I am pricing it with a LOW reserve, WAY below its designated price guide value. My loss is your gain. With the uncertainty in the stock market and gold topped out, many wise investors are getting into collector cars to hedge inflation. Let's face it, they aren't making any more 1959 Galaxies - those that are left are all there will ever be! Don't miss out on this excellent opportunity to invest in a fine piece of American automotive history. Please bid only if you intend to buy. The car is located in Northwest Arkansas and you are welcome to see it before you place a bid. A $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the close of the auction, balance due within 7 days. The car is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early. Please feel free to ask any questions that you may have and I will answer them at my absolute earliest opportunity. This car has to go so bid to win! Thanks very much and GOOD LUCK!
